I know that on a small case with little ventilation like the Alienware X51 it's a requirement to go with a blower. I'm just wondering with a high TDP card like the GTX 1080 in a passively cooled case like my RVZ02 will I see better cooling treating it like a low airflow case and going with a blower? I'd prefer a quite card like a Strix, but if I will get better cooling out of a Founders Edition I'm willing to sacrifice a little quite for overclocking performance.

Here's a link to the RVZ02 in case you have never seen it: http://www.silverstonetek.com/raven/products/index.php?model=RVZ02&area=en&top=C

I spend too much on my PC. Then I spend even more on my Sim Rig. Damn, this stuff's expensive.

dont be an idiot and wait until the aftermarket coolers come out and get some reviews.

for all we know this iteration's evga could blow chunks, and gigabyte's monsterous cooler could be actually useful for once.

+1, I cannot wait to see what Gigabytes new G1 cards will do, a G1 1080 is my next card! Unless EVGA does something special!

You'd probably benefit more from a blower style setup with your given setup.  That doesn't necessarily mean that you should get the Founders Editions as nVidia will be selling that design to their partner card manufactures for their own added twists.

While the case you've listed does have ventilation on the side, you're still going to need some type of overall airflow or case temps will rise.  The blower setup can draw fresh air in from the side and out the back creating some flow.  Other type coolers would be much better overall, but in a case that is actively cooled.

And not be as bloody loud (if they go with 120mm fans, not the high RPM 80mm that remind me of the old Delta fans). Also we could hope that they don't put half of the vRAM on the back needlessly.

If I go for a blower card it will be one of the third party ones that look like a FE card, I just figured they would be called Founders Edition also so I refer to them as such. I'll be taking a good look at reviews of the 1080 that include fan db and temps.
