That one will be fine, 725w might even be a bit too much.

That one is fine.

Dont go with a cheap power supply. Go get a quality one from corsair, pc power and cooling, antec, or silverstone.

It's a poor non-PFC unit where the 475w version failed not only to delivered it rated output but went out of ATX specification when drawing more than 360w. Since this very platform failed at a lower output than the one you are looking at, I would past on this crap and find a proper unit for your system.

Get 550W if you aren't going to OC and if you plan on adding a second one, 750-800W will be plenty.

Look at this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-hcg620m if you are buying a new unit.

@CreepingMoth ok and what will happen if i buy a nice corsair one? apart from power bill being a bit lower? will the 7970 perform better?

It will provide cleaner more constant power and just be better made, so it will last longer etc... Go for 500w-600w for the one graphics card, or 700w-800w if you want to do crossfire in the future.

hello

why have people been saying my current psu is fairly crappy?

Read the discussion here and the review that it has been posted: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9027

Older lower-end CM units has a track record of being over-rated (in a sense that they take a 350w PSU and labeled it as a 500w), poor performing, poorly build, etc, and this particular line from CM is one of them. The original Extreme Power Plus was like this as well. In fact, the 400w and 460w unit was practically the same unit with only few component upgraded but it did not stop it from failing approximately at the same output.

It's cheap and coolermaster power supply's aren't thought of to be that fantastic. But mostly it's cheap.

To be far, the PSU team of CM has been reorganized as well as has a new PSU manager. The two PSU they had worked with, the V and VS line, are great units. It shows that they turning the company around, in which their future releases may be worth looking at. Those trashy units that CM had release in the past are also EOL and aren't in production (they would still be some in stores due to stock of course).

A 550W or a 600W will be more than enough, especially without overclocking.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 - 3900x @ 4.4GHz with a Custom Loop | MBO: ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme | RAM: 4x4GB Apacer 2666MHz overclocked to 3933MHz with OCZ Reaper HPC Heatsinks | GPU: PowerColor Red Devil 6900XT | SSDs: Intel 660P 512GB SSD and Intel 660P 1TB SSD | HDD: 2x WD Black 6TB and Seagate Backup Plus 8TB External Drive | PSU: Corsair RM1000i | Case: Cooler Master C700P Black Edition | Build Log: here

1. So my 725W would output approximately how much do you reckon max?

2. What is EOL?

@BYOGamingPC and or anyone else is the Corsair TX650 a good power supply? who makes it? what power does it output?

and if it is good how many amps on 12V does a 7970 need? to run flat out? would this psu (TX650) be good enough?

@quan289

@mgsstar

@Volbet

@BYOGamingPC

@Analog

Yes I have a TX650 V2 and it runs my 7950 perfectly and my card is based off of on a 7970 PCB and the power requirements are the same. Is it the V2 or the V1 version because the V2 would be a better choice?
