A freind told me that i could edit the firmware in my modem so i could increase the thruput.

i asked my isp and they said what ever i do to the modem they dont care if i break it they will just send out a new one free.

So is there a way can get into the firmware level and edit it.

Note i have quite a few modems to test it out on they are cisco DPQ3925-X

Mods please note i am not trying to do anything ileagal i have okayed it with my isp.

You can try Tomato of pfSense, but make sure your router modem is supported. You will most likely get some more options to configurate the network, but it's probably not worth it.

I ran this by a buddy of mine that works for a fiber company and he scoffed at the idea. He's the kind of buddy that if it was true he would tell me.. He did give me a killer package for home :)

As a cable employee I highly advise you dont modify it in any way the security dept will confiscate the modem and persue action ive already seen it once a few yrs ag. Sub demanded we use her box from her old acct with us and it kept kicking out the ip we had to hand it over to the security dept for investigation because the way she was acting about it Dont know what happened after that. Cable crimes I believe are considered federal crimes so if u dont wanna bunk with buba the serial killer in a 6×8 cell dont touch.

why would a company allow u to increase your speed when they can over charge you for it.and every one uncapped there modem speed it could knock out the network. untill the use of docsis 3.0 cable companys couldnt give max speeds they offered . for a long time when our company only offered 15mbps they could only sustain 5-6mbps imagine if u uncapped and your neigbor uncapped it wouldnt matter cuz there wasnt enough bandwith for every one.now its not an issue but still companies are out to drain our wallets why give out free service. I dont personaly need more than 15 only need more when I need to reformat and I got steam origin ubisoft and windows update going and netflix going on 2 tablets at same time

Yeah, I highly doubt your isp was like, "Yeah, sure...put a sledgehammer through our modem, we will send you a new one asap. No questions asked."

Get real, son.

They actually did I asked what is your policy on modifying the modem and if they would replace it and they said that if I break it then they will replace it for free I found it hard to believe too
