2 980 Ti's use ~500W at max but hopefully NVIDIA's 1080 Ti or whatever will have a lower power consumption so 1000W should be okay.

I'm gonna be ugrading my build this year, quite a lot, getting a 4790k, 980 ti (pascal most likely though 1080 ti/x80 ti when it comes out), 8g of ddr3, 2 ssd's and a hdd if that matters. Will a corsair rm 1000 be enough if I plan to sli in the future?

Yep

so.. as a contrast: the corsair RM series doesnt use their fan under a certain percentage of load, go look up the details if you care.

RM750, i7 4790k, 16GB ram, GTX970, two hard drives, SSD, and optical drive.

even with everything clunking away the psu fan doesnt spin.

Im running an OC 6700k and two OC 980ti's of a 760W and it only draws up to 700W max load

Its 250W or so per card + 75W from the PCI slot. Some cards can use more with OC, as the cables are rated for more (6pin is 75W and 8pin is 150W).

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

Yes 1000 W from any even marginally reputable brand will be more than enough for 2 980 Tis or 1080 Tis.  I expect Pascal will have similar power consumption to all the cards now since nvidia will probably use any savings in power per watt to just give us more power (or so I hope)

That 1000w PSU is way overkill for what you are wanting to do. It will be future proof though in case you want to add more hardware later.

To give you an idea. My 4770k (basically a 4790k) OC'd at 1.430v and a OC'd 980 Ti pulls about 475 watts from the wall with 12 fans,2 SSDs, a water pump, and a ton of LEDs.
