Posted May 2, 2016 In the event that my sabertooth doesn't get RMAed as both PCI-e slots have basically failed... Should I go with: i7 6700k+z170 mobo and 16GB of RAM or i7 5820k+x99 mobo and 16GB of RAM or Wait for Zen or Broadwell-e...like my original plan before my sabertooth gave up... I have the money to go with the 5820k which will help me with what I do with my computer as it likes more threads but is the IPC of it so bad compared to Skylake that I should just go with the i7 6700k? (I will still be continuing using my h100i as it's been exceptionally good in terms of temps...lowest fan speeds with my 3570k@4.2GHz and 60c max with prime95... Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here... What? As I said, there seriously is nothing here Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/590338-what-should-i-do/ Share on other sites
 Posted May 2, 2016 I would say wait for Broadwell-E at least, it's supposed to be launched within the few weeks. I can wait till my exams have finished on the 27th of may but once past that date, I would want to be rebuilding my PC...(the timing for my mobo to give up...just as my exams start so I can't prioritize it...) Everything I've seen points to the launch during Computex which is at the end of May. Just note that the pre-order prices are stupidly high, NCIX listed the 6900k at like $1600 but then some dropped on ebay with the 6900k priced around $900 Current Network Layout: Current Build Log/PC: Storage Server Setup: Prior Build Log/PC: Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/590338-what-should-i-do/#findComment-7683887 Share on other sites
 Posted May 2, 2016 you'll always be waiting for the next best thing. if you have the budget now, spend now. waiting for 5-10% better something is always going to cost more, especially on release day. shop what is available now, find best pricing and live with the decision. then update accordingly to needs. otherwise, spending twice on something that isn't here yet can be a disappointment. Thanks, gonna see if In can get my failing motherboard RMAed first...if not then 5820k it is . One more question, EATX motherboards are just longer in terms of width and the same for height compared to an ATX motherboard right? Looking at my signature are we now? Posted May 2, 2016 correct, the standard ATX is 9.60" wide (some of the newer cost feature" motherboards are narrower) as the EATX stretches to 10/10.5" wide.
