Full on gaming. AAA titles, etc. Its for a friend, so they said use all 2K of the total cost. They dont want dual GPU. I honestly put the 980 in there because im waiting for polaris and pascal to come out and then see what goes on.

You don't need nearly as much as that for just gaming at 1080P max settings.

And if you are waiting for Polaris and Pascal, I'm guessing you will be building your PC when they come out?

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

The 980 is in the build to set up as a buffer to build around. But yes, im waiting for those two arcs to come out, and then see how much they cost. She is thinking 1080p and 4k since she has a 4k monitor that works on 1080p settings

So are you building it now? If not, then make a post when you will build it. Things will change through time, and you'll get more appropriate recommendations if you make a post later than now.

As for cost, again, things might change in the future, but as of now, 1000USD is more than enough for a solid 1080P build.

I am not building it now. My current Rig was under 1000 easily. If i put a better GPU in it, it would be around that price. She wants her rig future proofed a lot. She apparently will have the money tomorrow, and i was saying no GPU for awhile and hold off. She really doesnt honestly though have her heart set on a black/red build, along with using all this 2k USD

You don't need 6700K for gaming, if you decided on skylake then 6600k will be just as good.

Another thing, why 2 ssds? The 850 evo will give more than enough performance for gaming, the 500gb version costs around $150, which will be more than enough. I doubt m.2 will be any better in this use case, it's just an extra waste of money.

Just because someone says use all of the budget, you don't need to waste it on pointless things. Rather save it and invest into 144hz monitor or just keep it in the pocket.

If she wants the build now, then build the entire thing, including the GPU.

If not, then don't bother at all.

That being said, you and your friend should know that "future-proof" doesn't mean anything. How long your build lasts depends purely on how fast technology (and performance) is moving at any given time, and how your applications are changing in requirements.

You want a gaming rig? 1080P maxed out? You don't need more than this:
