im just about 17. I really messed up, i bought a 350z in cash. it was a spectacular deal. it had 49,000 miles for 9000. I worked my ass off for 3 years for this car but its an automatic and i regret it. My dad tells me just to keep the car but i find no enjoyment out of it. i know it would be cheaper to sell my automatic then buy a Manuel than replacing the transmission but id still lose money. i find no enjoyment out of driving my first sportscar. i think its because its an automatic. i never had the opportunity to drive a manuel so...but any ideas on some cars of equal value that are just as nice in a manuel? i have about 10000 i can spend. (if i were to sell my car). just looking for ideas

Do you already know how to drive manual? If not, learning via your first "sports car" is not a good idea.

10k can buy some decent cars. A fun and super easy to learn on car would be an RSX Type S. Mazdaspeed 3s are in that range but harder to drive. Though I think you should save up some more and maybe trade in after a few years. You'd open up a lot of options like Fiesta ST, BRZ, or just another 350z but manual.

A manual isn't going to make the fun factor go up 200%.

Honestly, the most amount of fun ive ever had in a car is full flooring an old Ke55 around the twisties, using every cubic inch of power.

Its more impressive to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow ;)

Honestly most high end sports cars these days are automatic or at least some form of tiptronic like the BMW M3 gearbox etc

I mean sure i prefer a manual but im looking to get a 645ci soon and its tough to find a manual, but automatic is still fun, you can still floor it and get the speed

that said, a 350z is a hell of a car for a first car, i would never advise a car like that to a new driver, its stupid

I would say keep it, that is a lot nicer than my first car and has more than 100000 miles less.  The car I drive has semi-automatic transmission, but I hardly use that feature as it can still go  and is fast enough in manual.  The only time I use semi-automatic transmission feature is when I am driving down an icy hill in winter (ABS only can do so much for you)

Terrible terrible idea - euro sports cars are notoriously expensive to maintain when they start getting to that age.

OP -  Stick with what you've got, if you've just got your license, statistically you're likely to be in an accident in the first 2 years, whether or not that's clipping a pole when parking or being in something more serious. Save for a while and when you're in your 20's, look at getting a car you really love.

I honestly think that none of these cars are good as your "First Car". At 17 years old, the OP should have bought something practical and reliable, like a Toyota Camry/Corolla or a Honda Civic/Accord or something similar.

Even if he saved up enough money and can afford to buy a 350z or an M3, it's not a good decision for someone that young and inexperienced.

I have driven both manuals and automatics.

And i kinda agree that automatics can get boring very quickly.

Therefor i personaly prefer manual aswell.

Even the modern dual clutch automatics, are not allways that nice to drive in my opinnion.

Allthough they change gears allot quicker, it still does take some of the driving fun away in my opinnion.

It does not feel natural.
