Best SATA 2 SSD

SATA2 and SATA3 have same physical connector. Just buy any SATA3 SSD and plug it in, it will just work at slower speed.

SATA 3 is backwards compatible. Something like a Sandisk SSD Plus is a good option for the money.

you can use a sata 3 SSD on a sata 2 port

pretty sure they dont make sata 2 SSDs, everything these days is sata 3

SATA 3 is backwards compatible all the way back to SATA 1 and vice versa a SATA 1 device can connect and work in a SATA 3 port.

SATA III specifications provide backward compatibility to function onSATA I and SATA II ports. However, the maximum speed of the drive will be slower due to the lower speed limitations of the port

People have reported problems with Sata 3 on macbook 2008.

With rare exceptions, everything with a SATA port is compatible with everything else with a SATA port.

 

The MacBook 2008 uses an Intel chipset, and those are definitely compatible with SATA3 drives.

Just did some search on the market and I was unable to find any SSDs that are specifically designed for SATA II. So look for any bang-for-the-buck SSD and try it out.
