Fallout 3 vs Fallout New Vegas

eric95204

I have beat both games already on xbox, but without dlc. Since i have a 2 week break coming up soon, i feel like playing one of them with all of the dlc and with some mods. So which one would you recommended more and what mods to go with it.

I haven't played New Vegas but at the moment I'm busy getting pissed off with Fallout 3 GOTY, if you get onto the spaceship thing and need to kill the alien captain, drop me a line because I can't find the little bastard.

I preferred New Vegas, due to the (IMO) more interesting story line, and interesting characters.

Get yourself the Nexus Mod Manager (it makes modding a lot less frustrating), and if you're interested in New Vegas get:

-Interior Lighting Overhaul

-Women of the Wasteland (More realistic looking female characters)

-Dynavision 2 (Dynamic lens effects)

-Continue After Game's Ending

-Vurt's Wasteland Floral Overhaul

-Essential Visual Enhancements

-Project Reality (Dynamic weather & lighting)

-Populated Casino (increases the number of NPCs in casinos)

Fallout 3, in my opinion, has the better story and side stories.

Fallout New Vegas, in my opinion, has better gameplay and a more solid experience.

I say get NV ,I love fallout 3 its truly amazing, but it doesn't run well AT ALL on modern systems, I tried numerous fixes and workarounds to get to even boot up without crashing, not to mention the crashes once you are in the game those are the worse.

Also, NV introduced aiming down sights and weapon modifications, you can get those in 3 via mods, but they're not as good and they have many problems.

As for mods, watch Modding Fallout by Gopher, it will teach you how to mod and show you the mods you should get : D

edit; if the videos dont show up for you go to your address bar and delete the s in ''https'' that should make them work. It does for me at least ;o

I think I have become quite the expert with both games. With about 1000 hours logged into both of them together I pretty know all the ins and outs of the entire game. Obviously not everything but the Fallout series is the only game series where I bothered to learn as much as I could as it's my favorite two games of all time. Notice how I call them both my favorite games of all time. They are really similar in fact, so similar that it's not really fair to compare them. However the only ways you could compare them was if you said that New vegas was an improvement over an already almost perfect game. Albeit a minor improvement with the repair system and thats about it. There were however other things such as different calibers and better crafting system. Also the hardcore mode is also really nice. If I was going to say which one was my favorite I could not choose because fallout 3 had the better more atmospheric atmosphere whereas in New Vegas it had a more fleshed out game. I could go on for about an entire forum page but I'm not so I will just leave everyone who reads this with one answer. Just get both, don't even choose, they are both really good games although very similar, if you liked Fallout 3 play New Vegas right after and you will like it just as much, if you don't like NV over 3 then there is something wrong with you. Also mod the game like crazy while you venture into the wastelands. Be careful not to break the game though because it's really easy if you are modding it in anyway.

Also the story for New Vegas is deeper if you get the DLC's. New Vegas has the best Dlc's I have played in my entire history of gaming. I can't pick which one I enjoyed most but I love the Riot Armour MK III. Oh and at the start of playing New Vegas follow this step guide to maximise the items you have.

1/ Go and buy a shovel from Chet at the store.

2/Go to the Yangtze Memorial and open a duffel bag which can have a 357. Magnum/Plasma rifle/Laser rifle/Sawn-off shotgun/Caravan Shotgun/laser Pistol or a Plasma pistol also there are some Misc items in there. Use the shovel to dig up the grave on the right of the memorial. Oh and be careful approaching the memorial, a radscorpion can spawn (the big kind). On the way their there will be 2 wild dogs together, there will be one of the hill to the right and there will either be 2 more or just one in the devils pit.

3/ after that go to the graveyard and go through all the graves there, you can get a 357. Magnum or a shotgun of some sort. Also if you are playing in Hardcore pick up the herbs and stuff they can help. There is a slow globe at the back left grave so pick that up, also there are some cigarrettes near the open grave where you were buried so pick them up for later on in the game (I will not spoil it but they are essential in my opinion).

4/From there I won't do the rest because I wouldn't stop and then eventually do a complete guide to New Vegas which I won't do. All I will say is that in the road to Primm there will be a Radroach and a small hunter geko fighting.

I don't think I have forgotten anything but in the devils hole place right of the memorial there should be an ammo box.

I tried everything there is to try, I did the multi core fix (i even made it run on 1 core, that worked, for a while) i made it large address aware i installed various stability mods, still crashes, that video you sent me? thats nothing, I've done much more than that and it still crashes. Maybe it was just bad luck, but regardless, NV is more stable.

I prefer New Vegas. It felt more polished, even at vanilla, and had a lot of interesting characters going for it. Plus, I loved the cheesiness of the Old World Blues DLC.

New Vegas is what Fallout 3 should have been. If I could take the story from Fallout 3 and put it through New Vegas, it would be the best game ever. New Vegas is more in-tuned with the fallout franchise, as in the old fallout games, 1 and 2. I like the game mechanics and environment much more because it is more of a "true" fallout world.

Most people like Vegas more, bacause it fixed some problems that F3 had, and it has more features. Also DLCs can bring a lot more items, that mostly make game IMBA, (on the other hand, if you play NV you have to get Lonesome Road, the Riot Suits man, the Riot Suits...) but are still fun. I personally like NV, but I'm in love with F3. The storyline, climate, NPCs, locations, (did I mention storyline?) are just Amazing. Yes, capital A for that.

Whether you like F3 or NV more, it really is just your own personal taste.

To me FO3 is an open world exploration with bad writing, FO:NV is more quest oriented with less exploration.

I'm currently finding my replay value in FO3 because there's so much to wander around and do I forget things from playthrough to playthrough.  I've done every quest with every possible outcome in NV so that got old for me.

FWE is an amazing mod for FO3 which adds a real element of survival/hardcoreness (is that a word?), I don't see myself ever playing without that mod.  Anything that's cool in NV has a mod for FO3, which I've found very cool.
