My bro has had one for a few years, he has been happy with it so far. What more can you say about it, it's an IKEA table?:P

Yes, but mine is about 15-20 years old :D

I think they dropped a bit in build quality.

if they dropped on build quality, how does it come that yours is still alive after 15-20 years?

Because his is from 15-20 years ago, not now when the build quality has dropped

Seems overpriced for a desk to me. Have you considered making one yourself?

I have considered it the only problem i have is finding nice adjustable table lets that won't break the bank.

I'm no master craftsman but I believe you can get a piece of countertop (that you like) and it can be perfect sized and you can mount it to the wall.

Well back then they were build really sturdy and solid with strong and heavy steel profiles. Probably one of the reason why it lasted that long ;)

I also had another Galant desk standing in at my parents house unitil recentlty, which is only about 3-4 years old and isn't up to the  quality of my old big 'L-Desk'.

Would prefer to make a project and build it myself and save about 50% from buying IKEA which you also need to put it up yourself.

On a swedish forum I used to be quite active on about 95% had the same IKEA desk, I think it was the galant. I personally find the galant pretty boring and the build quality is not that good either. Get something old if you want a sturdy desk or build your own although most self built look pretty much the same.

I own a lot of Ikea Desks. I really suggest that you do a custom table though. Pick up the table top you want ($35ish) and the legs/shelves to get the look you want. It's usually cheaper.

You can make them look really nice.

This is 3 Ikea desks make into an L desk

$35 Table Tops: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10251352/

$15 EACH Legs: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60105301/

$45 EACH Table Legs: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50250992/

Each desk is around $100-$130 depending on what you build with it.

I also use these desks in my shops as work tables and they stand up to having hundreds of computers slammed all over them on a weekly basis. Very sturdy if you get the adjustable legs and spend the 10 minutes to adjust them just right. The desktop is actually heavy and well made.
