Spire BlackEagle 550W

scristi

Howdy folks. Soo, my akasa 400w psu is kinda giving me some trouble, after i cut the power to the computer, and then i plug in back in, my computer fails to start, it starts after i wiggle and pull out/plug in the cable for a few times (sometimes even 50)...

I determined that the problem is the psu indeed, because i used another psu and it started, plus the mobo has its capacitors ok.

Now i have about 50 USD to buy a new one, and i think the Spire Black Eagle 550W is a good choice, it is upgrade proof as well.

It has 2 12v rails at 16 amps each, 82% efficiency, 2 pciex 6+2, 1 4+4 pin and the rest you know anyway.

I tend to trust Spire since my experience with their products has been quite good, but i need your help and advice with this one.

I loved my akasa because it was DEAD silent, it had 2 12v 14 15 amps, it was nice.

My system is a Gigabyte MA770-UD3 mobo, Phenom 940 quad 3 Ghz proc, 6GB ram and the elephant in the room, a Sapphire HD4870 which is quuuite hungry.

So the things i would like to know about this power source is if it's silent (i also hate coil whine), if it's quality stuff, and if you have any other recommandation, please share it here.

Thank you for reading the full story. Cheers.

I would get the CX500 because I trust Corsair, it's $40 after mail-in rebate.

what about a corsair vs450?

Give us a website or something where we can look for PSUs for you. The VS is good but it's very old.

is a 34amps 1 rail, apparently my hd4870 needs about 32 so i thought it's a good choice.

What's your budget in your country's currency? Also, can you provide us with links to where you are able buy? This would allow us to know what's available to you at a given price point.

ok, pcgarage.ro, it's relatively easy to navigate, but you can always use google translation

the prices are listed in ron's, the max would be about 200 RON (60 usd)

i thought of the sirtec too, but it appears to have a monstrous coil whine which is a big no go for me

what can you tell me about the corsair? i mean it appears to be a solid choice, 34amp single 12v, and after all it is corsair....how bad can it be, it is corsair, even if a lower level one

i need it for a few months anyway, when i'l upgrade my system i'll probably have to go 750+ anyway, so i'm not really looking for an upgrade proof psu

thats based on a low end CWT platform,i do not recommend it in any way. go with the seasonic bronze. and ALL PSUs can have coil whine man, just get the sirtec and if it has the whine ,return it.

from corsair i would recommend the cx 500. but at that price you can get super flower.

the thing is, i am a product manager at a local computer store, and at the moment i have corsairs, ocz's, spire's, be quite's, cm, and others, and up to this moment i haven't had any talks with seasonic or sirtec distributors, so that's why i was pushing for the corsair or the spire, i understand your recommandations.....and if i had sirtec i wouldn't have given it a second thought.....but i don't really have much of a choice, and i can't speed the talks....so that's kinda why i have that corsair in mind
