SVP with MadVR. It seems difficult to install and configure, but it really isn't. I got all my friends to do it and they love the double interpolation.

DVD playback codec is in the Media Center Add-on pack.

It's only 10$ for Windows 8 Pro (DVD's will need to be played with Media Center, which is some what fine, as you can have it play automatically as you insert a DVD movie in)

Considering the price (50-150$) of alternative DVD codec players, and forces you to use their shitty buggy video player, this is a pretty good deal.

it has the blandly named "video" app as well as windows media player (JUST LIKE WIN XP/VISTA/7)

you can install codecs just as you did with windows media player and it will use it

also...what movies do you play from a CD?

GamingPC: Intel 4770k CPU, 2xMSI 780 GTX Twin Frozr, 16 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro, Swiftech H220 CPU Cooler.
