OBS Recording

I've tried before to record gameplay with the OBS software(open broadcasting software) which I know was originally for live streaming but can be used to just recordings of gameplay, game audio, and mic audio. The main problem I have is that when recording, my fps in the game drops down about a quarter to about a half which makes it almost impossible to play. I instantly think that since I have 2 different programs running at once that I think is heavy demanding, this might be a problem with low RAM but I was doing research and I found some articles on it that stated it depends on the cpu but now I'm at a loss and don't know what I need to upgrade to not have this problem. (Or maybe I need a different recording software that you could recommend (either free or on a budget))

Depending on your bitrate/CPU/encoder you could be pinning your CPU. Specs and settings?

look at some tutorials online they give you the right settings depending on your build

Both streaming and recording will have impact on your PCs performance. So if you already had trouble running games, streaming them is close to impossible. Without taking graphics settings and resolution down even more.

OBS can use the Nvidia Encoder just like Shadowplay does, and that is the best way to use it for minimal drop. Then it wont be using the CPU much at all and instead it'll be using the GPU video encoder hardware which also isn't being used for gaming.
