Go to solution Solved by RaymanBlokkin,

Alright everyone, after taking account most things you guys have recommended to me i came out with the following

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hqk3f7

How is this setup?

Hello guys,

I have been planning to build a new pc, after talking to a few different people who are little more experienced then i am myself,  i came out with the following setup.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/cBxmVn

As a first time builder I am not that experienced on what points to specifically look at hence why I am asking you guys on the forum what can I improve about this setup. And is it good for some mid tier gaming.

Thanks in advance Ramon

Looks pretty good.. I would say though if you were looking to push the limits of the CPU overclocking, that you may want a better cooler.  It's plenty good for stock or even mild overclock though.

my work in progress

i5 6600k  //  16gb g.skill ddr4 3000  //  evga gtx 980

It would play at 1080 just fine, I would personally change the 960 to a 380/380x

Mouse/Headset/keyboard/case is all personal

Best advice, try and find a store which lets you try it before you buy

I was not specifically looking to overlock my cpu all that much, though i did go with one which could overclock if i needed the improved performace

i added the mx master to the setup as i already have it, it was more of a convenience to add it to the parts list

You really don't need to overclock to achieve anything. It'd be way better to save the money and buy a better GPU. You don't need more than 8GB of RAM if you're just gaming either.

I wouldn't recommend any Seagate HDD ever. Western Digital is a better choice in the end.

Oh, and don't get a GTX 970 like MrG13 suggested. The R9 390 is better for as cheap/cheaper.

If you do decide not to get a better GPU anyways, it'd be a better choice to get an H170 motherboard and a locked i7 rather than an unlocked i5 and a CPU cooler.

Spoiler

1) would drop the i5-6600k to an i5 6400 or something, get a cheaper motherboard, and get a better gpu, unless you plan to upgrade your gpu soon

2) sub-par cpu cooler for extreme oc will do fine for mild to normal OC

3) get vengeance lpx or hyperx ram, ive seen enough skylake system not boot because of incompatible rams

4) WD blue are more reliable than barracuda

5) change that 960 to a 380 if you wanna buy a gpu of that price point, performs better in DX11 games, and a lot better in DX12

6) case is personal, but this one is sorta cheap for a build like this lol

7) sub-par PSU, get a better one for your rig if you're planning to overclocking

8) get windows from microsoftsoftwareswap subreddit for cheaper

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Also, hey, spend a bit more on a case. Just like the power supply, you want one that is convenient and one that lasts you. Maybe get a Fractal Design Define R5 or a CoolerMaster Mastercase 5. You could drop your CPU to an i5-6400 instead of an i5-6500 if that helps. Both still do very well in games.
