Evening everyone,

I'm getting ready to start doing stuff on YouTube, the only problem being I have blue switches... I'm looking at a membrane alternative to eliminate sound while gaming so I found the Nostromo. I can get it for $60 brand new, has anyone had any experiences with the Nostromo or can anyone off any alternatives? Thanks in advance.  ^_^                        razer-nostromo-gallery-1.png

I have had it and I loved it! I got so used to it that I eventually didn't even consider gaming on a keyboard whether i was recording or not. Its a little weird to get used to but once you do its great.

Awesome, thanks for the help. It looks like it will be interesting to begin with as I'm too used to Shift and Ctrl and the buttons on the Nostromo look pretty tiny.

Just get some 20$ membrane keyboard for gaming while streaming. Those things are really crappy and cost 3x of some keyboard you can use while streaming before going back to your blues ^^

One of the main reasons I was looking at this in the first place was space to be honest, I don't have much room on my desk and constantly moving keyboards around will get pretty tedious I think.

I think those are rubbish, they cost a stupid amount. if you pay a bit more then you can get a mechanical keyboard, just get a logitech g105 or a g110. Hell i use a bloody alienware keyboard which was £5. It does its job and it does it well.

I should have mentioned this is AUD and mechanical keyboards start at about 100, everything is a little more expensive unfortunately.

This is cheaper and has the standard stuff and media buttons. Ive tested it and it is robust and quiet.

Woot.com always have them for less than 60. I have one and it's cool but it's a small use case.

Because I can get one brand new on Ebay for 35 do you think it would be worth it? It will be used alot I just don't want another keyboard occupying my desk if at all possible.

well, let me put it this way.

Your thumb will have direct access to not only a space bar, but also an 8 way d-pad and simple little button too. what makes that fact better. you dont have to move your hand at all to be able to reach those 10 buttons (8 way d-pad) on just your thumb.

the palm rest is comfortable and your hand rests on it beautifully so you can game long hours and not worry about wrist cramping up.

the back line of buttons on the keypad are tilted forward making it easier to hit them with your fingers.

You can also program the scroll wheel to what ever key you want just like every thing else. but out of all the keys the scroll wheel is the trickiest to reach and you may actually need to move your hand to reach this key, and ONLY this key. every thing else is smooth.

im short, you can sit back relax and game comfortably with this awesome kit.

Is it over priced for what it is. Yeah, it could do with being $20 cheaper, but ive still been willing to buy two of these over a 9 month period at their full price.

Like I said its  a lot more comfortable then gaming on a fully keyboard and I loved it especially for games like Arma that has controls all over the place. right now I use the orbweaver and will never game on a full keyboard again

Problem solved.

... :D

I had an Xbox 360 windows controller but it appears they are incredibly weak as dropping it twice from a desk has killed it.  :(

stay away from the old one with the orange thumb button

I've been using mine since 2006 or 2007 and I would never ever MMO without it never again will I contort my hands to hit shift/cntrl/alt and my abilities and with my movement mapped to the thumbstick I can dps or tank or heal on the move

when I played around a lot with sony vegas I made a special map for those functions and right now I have it set up for rome 2 total war.

Depends on the use case. I mean it works well with most games and the drivers are pretty good. The macros are pretty handy for RTS games and for some applications (Photoshop, Premier, Vegas) the build quality is pretty standard for Razer, pretty good in other words. The lighting is bright and it can open up a tone of options depending on how you use it. Hope this helps. But keep in mind, the Nostromo is discontinued so you may want to look at Razer's new series of macro keyboards, the Orbweaver and the Tartarus which Linus reviewed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glC72mwjyN4 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQqudcggpsY

Ill say that it depends on what games you want to play, for example i use my orbweaver for battlefield and i have JUST enough buttons to only use my mouse and the orbweaver. the nostromo has much less buttons and its an older gamepad with membrane switches(although you wanted that for less noise). i'd say that you look into the orbweaver stealth or the tartarus and make your choice out of that.

Yeah I have the same problem with my Nostromo and some games where I need a lot of buttons. It is comfortable though which is a plus but the membrane switches and the small size is a downside for some people.
