New Build for Video Editing and Gaming

yas1320

Hi Guys

Need your help!

I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard, ram and cpu, which i will be using for video editing and gaming(GTA 5 and Far Cry 4 etc).  I will not be overclocking. Motherboard Will need at least 5 sata ports, i have 5 fans on my pc, and would like to go down the DDR4 route. Also, the motherboard will need to be a matx.    I already have a Samsung 250gb 850 Evo ssd and will use my GTX 650gpu for now and then will upgrade this at a later date.

My budget is £350.00.

Can anyone suggest what motherboard, cpu and ram i should go for.

Thanks

They're both alright, even though the Integra M isn't as suitable for high-end builds. So long as we aren't pushing 650W with it, he should be alright.

You aren't going to be doing a lot of gaming with this GPU, even at 1080p. It's incredibly underpowered, and you probably won't be seeing smooth performance on AAA titles even at the lowest settings. Also, what programs are you going to be using? Adobe Premiere fares better with CUDA cores than stream processors, but Sony Vegas Pro is more suited towards AMD's hardware, oddly enough.

Granted, at this level, you'd be better off putting as much towards the CPU as you can if video editing is the main purpose of this build. However, I wouldn't recommend keeping the GTX 650 for gaming.

I´d recommend the 1231v3 if you plan on video editing actually.

Ill be using premiere.  I will upgrading the GPU at a later date.  Will mainly be using it for video editing at the moment!

I second the Xeon, but you're going to need at least 8GB of DDR3 ram- The Pentium E5550 OP has uses DDR2, if I'm not mistaken.

Furthermore, what of mass storage? If he intends to edit video and have a few games installed, 250GB won't be anywhere near enough.

You're going to need a lot more mass storage than what your SSD can hold. I can't find cheap motherboards with that many fan headers, so you're better off purchasing a fan hub/controller or piecing one together. I did find one that has three, so you can probably get away with a few splitters. Also, why do you think having 5 fans in your case is a good idea to go with DDR4? It doesn't make any difference.

Yes. You already said so, and I already told you to purchase 3-pin/4-pin splitter cables to use all your fans with the 3 PWM system fan ports on the motherboard. However, you probably won't need all five fans, especially not with your efficient hardware. Neither the Xeon E3 1231-V3 or the GTX 750 runs particularly hot.

I did recommend a micro-ATX board.

Also, you didn't forget to mention it- you did mention it. In your first post-

Cheers. Good luck with your editing work.

Also- if Adobe Premiere has the Intel QuickSync feature that you find in Sony Vegas Pro (using the iGPU to speed up rendering), keep in mind that you won't be able to do so, as the Xeon E3 1231-V3 doesn't come with any integrated graphics, which is why it's so cheap.

Thanks for that. I'll keep that in mind.
