Rare unexpected freeze and restart when gaming.

Murasaki

This has been happening for half a year now, on a rare occasion while im playing a more GPU intensive game like Elite Dangerous/Need For Speed Rivals, system just locks up and restarts.

No BSoD, nothing in Event Manager, absolutely NOTHING.

I have a new psu for a month or so and this has occured today, so its NOT the power supply. What can the cause of this rare occurence be?

CPU: A8 6600K

MOBO: ASRock FM2A68M-DG3+

GPU: Gigabyte GTX650

How do you know its not the power supply? Because to me it sound like it could be. It could be getting overloaded and shutting down and once the power draw drops due to the shutdown it turns back on starting up your system again.

Edit: I mean i know what you're saying but it could well be it. even though you got a new one.

It's likely the PSU - you might have bought a defective one

A 600W PSU overloaded with that hardware? I can't imagine that...

If its a shitting psu it might aswell not be capable of doing 600W

It's not about load, it's about a shoddy unit. What PSU do you have?

Aurum non-Pro are mediocre. It's very likely you bought a lemon. Try an RMA

I'll test it out further and see if it continues, cant rush and RMA since I dont have the old PSU.

Well - if the PSU is unstable it COULD damage components so I'd be very careful. You are treading on some mighty thin ice

It could be a PSU issue, but since you replaced before a month and you had this problem for half a year, I'd look somewhere else. What are your CPU temps when gaming? Also what do you mean by it 'locking up'? Do the graphics get broken and/or does the sound get stuck? Or does it simply restart?

CPU doesnt go above 50 C

While im playing the sound and video just freezes, no stutter, just an abrupt stop in one place for a few seconds and then it reboots.

That most likely sounds like a graphics failure. You should troubleshoot your drivers to see if its a software issue (revert to previous version, remove & reinstall, etc). In your case with the gtx650 i would DEFINITELY recommend you to revert to previous versions. Nvidia has been notorious of breaking the drivers for that generation, and also your specific model. In fact, a friend of mine recently had to do that with the gtx650ti because it would crash within minutes after playing games like Borderlands 2 or Payday 2. Some workarounds involve slightly overclocking the card, but that isn't a proper solution. Trial and error!

Edit: Just look up "gtx 650 crash" on google and you will see it's a rather common problem.

Yeah I am suspecting the GPU aswell, though this happenes very rarely like once in ~2 months so im not worried at all, I've done stability tests and everything is fine.
