Overpriced Tosh vs Overpriced Bollocks.

Answer: Neither.

Go for an Asus G752, MSI Dominator or Acer Predator

Alienware is heavy, bulky and not super good for University life, but if it stays at your desk all day then its golden. The Blade is not as strong, horsepower wise but is a dream to carry with you along side your day.

Get the Razer and then get the add on Graphics Amp and a good monitor for your desk work while still having ample productivity life on the go.

Razer have TERRIBLE QC - most Blade users on the Notebookreview forums have went through 3-4 RMAs before getting a working one.

Also, heat issues - it overheats and is loud as fuck.

My recommendation:

use a desktop for performance at home, and then buy a used convertible or thin and light, then you can take something that's actually portable with you and still have good performance at home. And probably safe money as well, considering you should be able to buy the desktop with Blade performance for under a thousand, leaving you with a thousand to buy the used convertible and stuff like a monitor if you need it.

i would go with something by ASUS or MSI myself. Razer and Alienware are both pretty damn expensive for what you actually get performance wise.

Yea, but it will go down in price. Currently, it is expensive because Razer needs to make up fro Research and Development costs, but after that, the Razer Core will be fairly cheap most likely. In my opinion, more options are always a good thing.

While I agree about Alienware, their Inspirons are fantastic and the support is better than Asus or MSI

Its still better than lugging around a heavy Alienware laptop. From someone who goes to college myself, I refrain from lugging around my MSI GT60 because A. It weighs a ton, and kills my back. B. Battery life. C. Its cumbersome with a not so great touchpad.

Even if Razer has some bad batches here and there, and there graphics AMP might cost a fuck ton of cash on the side. Getting something usable that would not sound like a turbo charged toyota supra would be great. Gotta think of the usability here too. Keyword, University.

I am at Uni as well - no real issues with a 2.5kG 15.6' Y50. He can get a Y900 which is lighter than most in that class.

But there is a big difference between a Y50 and a Alienware. Like... HUGE difference in weight. Also having to carry that sucker around campus would hurt a ton, along side any books you do have. It's just not a fun experience.  I'm not even a Razer Fanboi or anything, I mean I resent everything else there company makes right down to the keyswitches. The only thing I really enjoy is there laptops, because of the flexibility and portability you can get out of them. If not taking it from me, Linus uses one as one of his daily drivers for work dosent he?

It's the same - look up disassemblies - not even copper heatsinkns.

What books? The only reason I carry mine around is so I DON'T have to carry books. As for weight - 2.5kg is nothing - I've spent 12 years carrying a 7kg backpack to highschool.
