No, both the motherboard and CPU do not support overclocking. You'll need a K-series CPU, a Z170 motherboard and a decent aftermarket cooler to do so.

The word 'unlocked' usually means an overclockable CPU so I found it strange for it to be featured on the i5 6500's box when it's a 'locked' CPU.

this is i5 6500 without the (unlocked) on the box....

you said strange and y is that?

is ther not a unlocked cpu for that model?

like never ever?

well its in malaysia so its wiead or the seller is trolling me?

As far as I know, there is no such thing as an unlocked i5 6500. There is, however, the i5 6600K which is 'unlocked'.

While there are some motherboards that automatically overclock, it's much better to do it yourself - you can get a way better overclock.

What I'm assuming they're talking about is BCLK overclocking. It's easily doable but you'll need a Z170 motherboard with the right BIOS to do so. Assuming Intel haven't locked it yet.
