Heat.

Heat the section you want to bend, this is the technique for tubing, I assume it would be the same here.

Would I heat gun work? If I moved it up and down a few times would it work the same way as this?

yes if the heat gun you use get's hot enough for the acrylic ur using, obviously 2mm heats up faster then 5mm.

I work with acrylic a lot, I can't recommend a heat gun for sheets as it's up to you to direct the heat.

 

The bender in that video only costs about £20 to make. If you're serious about doing this, do it properly!
