Intel i7-4790K vs i7-6700K

Hello,

Right now I plan to switch to Intel this week but i'm stuck between the i7-4790K or the i7-6700K. Both are good but on a comparison with cpuboss the 4790K out performs the 6700K. But the 6700K is newer so im not sure which to go with. What are your thoughts?

stop.

6700k is better in terms of performance, but depending on your usage and budget, the 4790k might offer better value for you.

6700k is better. CPUboss is an awful comparison site and generally regarded as so. do not use it other than to check specs yourself.

but cpuboss is poo.

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4790K/3502vs2384

this should be a better comparison.

and beyond that... i'd say it depends on how much you'll be paying extra for the 6700k, since the pricing still seems to fluctuate a bit.

if the difference is neglible (or if the 6700k ends up somehow being cheaper) i'd say 6700k.

if theres a notable price difference, to the point of having to give up other components, go 4790k.

The advantages of the 6700k are IPC(Improvments per clock, basically 100 mhz means more than 100mhz on a 4790k) and Better Integrated graphics). The 4790K has a slightly higher turbo clock. If I were you i would get the 6700k to last you fro another 2 years or you can go 4790k(if cheaper) and get maybe a better gpu. more ram or other upgrades

I'm always here to help

4790K is best for games because it has best single core performance of any CPU but 6700K lower power consumption (i think) and DDR4 which can be oced good

Thanks for the help! Normally I know the differences in CPU's but that is on the AMD side of things. Intel is new for me. I kind of figured the differences where as you guys said but seeing a chart made me question that. The money difference was about $70 with a board since I can bundle them. I'm doing this for an upgrade before I move out/get married this year so I want to get something good.
