Please Clarify. Which GPU is better?

Go to solution Solved by AresKrieger,

Based on your previous thread I think you may be asking to compare the wrong gpus since the laptops in question have a 970m and a 880m respectively, but it they should line up like this

970m is better than the 880m so it's 880m<970m<980m

So Im a bit confused. I am looking at two different laptops and one as a gtx880m and the other has a gtx980m. In this thread (below) I was told that the 880m is better. But everywhere I look, I see that the 980m is better. Can you please clarify for me which is better?  Thank you!

Comparison:

GTX 980M

1536 Cores

3.12 Teraflops

1038mhz Core Clock

2500mhz Memory Rate

4GB GDDR5

GTX 880M

1536 Cores

2.93 Teraflops

954mhz Core Clock

2500mhz Memory Rate

4GB or 8GB GDDR5

I'd vote that the slightly higher clock speed is what accounts for the greater floating operations per second, given the CUDA core counts are identical. I'd vote for the 980M simply because it uses the newer Maxwell architecture and has slightly more FLOPS.

the 980M is roughly 50% faster...so quite a bit better actually:

actually...the 970M would be slightly faster than the 880M according to these user submitted results in the database:

The 970M should also be more efficient, so the 970M is better than the 880M.

Yeah I edited my post, but not due to user benchmark since their data is off, I found some benches

it's not off it's user submitted you can download the benchmark and run it yourself and add your results to the database... i don't see how they could be off?

People have screwed with it before by making their hardware under perform, and other BS, but I do agree the 970m is better, I found a direct comparison in games, and the 970m wins by 2-8 fps
