Hi guys, so I wanna change the thermal paste on my CPU and graphics cards to try and lower temps a bit because why not haha and I have the whole weekend off to mess about with it

is the cool laboratory liquid ultra thermal paste good and can it be used with my CPU and h110

and is it ok to use on my msi g6 980tis ?

I guess it performs around the same as MX-4 so it's a good choice if you want to re-apply your thermal paste on your CPU and GPU, just get some isopropyl wipes or Arctic CPU Cleaner to get the old stuff off

I'd advise against using a conductive metal thermal interface material. The risk is that you will ruin the components or short something out. Just replacing the paste may even help more if it was dried out or used pads before.

Well everything has stock paste on atm and I want to drop the temps a bit so what should I use ?

Almost anything. Seriously, you don't need to put on things like CoolLabs or IC Diamond that will damage your CPU and/or heatsink, possibly even your motherboard if you screw up the install, when stuff like MX-4 that performs within 2C of those pastes is out there for a few bucks on Amazon.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Will mx-4 be ok for the gpus too ?

And can I expect to see much of an improvement ?

I've never opened up a GPU, but it's the same basic principle as a CPU. Just a lot less paste.

A few degrees C is the type of improvement I'd expect. Better thermal paste definitely helps things, but by itself it's not going to drop your core temp by 10C. It's been demonstrated that fried chicken grease, ketchup, mayonnaise and toothpaste are decent emergency thermal pastes for short-term use...if there's any conceivable situation in which you'd need fried chicken grease as an emergency paste.

Was just hoping for 5 degrees maby off everything, would be worth 4 pounds worth of thermal paste right ?

How much are you getting? 4g of MX-4 costs $8 here, about 5 pounds. It's good stuff that won't let you down, imo, and worth the premium.

I guarantee you it won't drop your temperatures significantly. Probably by 1-2C at most, and that's most likely just marginal error.

I'd just use Noctua paste it works fine for me. Conductive TIMs are dangerous and require a lot of skill to use.

Also never ever let them near aluminium as they will corrode it

http://www.coollaboratory.com/pdf/safetydatasheet_liquid_pro_englisch.pdf

They clearly contain gallium alloy to get the liquid metal properties.

Gallium does this to aluminium.
