First PC Build - Suggestions & Opinions Needed!

Medusa

Please let me know what you think of the parts I have. I have a budget of $3000 so I have some room to change/add stuff. My main concern is the motherboard I selected, I'm not sure if there are better options that are around/under $200.

Also what are you thoughts on the Corsair Vengeance LPX. Are they any good?

I'm open for all suggestions!

Update 3/24/2016 : This is the latest part list I have. I've added a few things which I think are good.

Changes & Additions:

  • Motherboard: Decided to go with the MSI Z170A SLI PLUS. Part Picker didn't have any compatibility problems with it so it should work. I'll check out the sizing later. One pro is the color - its all black so it fits with my color scheme.
  • Power Supply: EVGA 850W - People recommended this for me and it has good reviews so its good enough for me.
  • Fans: The Fractal HP14 140mm fans will replace the stock Kraken fans; it should make the rig somewhat quieter. The case allows for a 140mm fan on the back so I think a LED fan there would look awesome. So I opted for the Corsair Air Series SP 140 LED Green High Static Pressure Fan Cooling (140mm). I can fit 2 140mm fans on the top so I found these fans - Fractal Design Silent Series R2 Blackout Edition. The Kraken will be placed in the front, the single 140mm LED fan on the back, and the two Fractal Design Silent 140mm fans on the top. They should do the job but if there are better fans for the price then let me know.

Looks very solid.

The GPUs should fit in the case, i just checked the length of the GPU and case.

Good pick :)

are you planning to run a 1440P 144hz or a 4K monitor? haha

Would you like the pcpartpicker link?

I'm going to be using it to render stuff so the extra ram should help.

As for the PC Part Picker link, sure why not.

I might go with a 4K monitor because I've seen a few before and the quality is absolutely gorgeous. I'm used to terrible graphics and displays because I never really invested the money into a solid computer so an upgrade would be worthwhile.

This build is very powerful. You could even downgrade to two 980's or a single titan x (since you said you would be doing rendering, titans are great for that), if you dont wanna spend the few extra hundred for the 980tis

How does the Intel Core i7-5960X compare to the 6700?

Also what do you think about about my motherboard?

The 5960x has 8 physical cores opposed to 4 in the 6700, those should come in very handy with that rendering you were talking about ;)

Newer, arguably better quality

The 5960X has more cores but is much more expensive.

It's better for video rendering and editing, if you have the budget. The 6700K will be more than capable anyway.

Ah make sense... the price tag does say a lot about it then

As for the motherboard, what do you think of my selection

Also, your motherboard is terrific, I'm not sure it's compatible with the 5960x, but if it was, I would recoomend it :D

Guess I'm opting for the Samsung 850 SSD then.

Looks good but since you seem to be willing to go all out, I'd swap out the GPS's for the EVGA 980ti hybrids and run one of the rads to the rear exhaust port, and another rad to the top rear fan mount. They are going to be much quieter/cooler and should be able to achieve a better overclock if your into overclocking (by the look of the water cooling and K series cpu, your at least thinking of doing it). Also swap out the stock NZXT fans on the X61 for some Fractal Designs Venturi High Pressure fans or some equivalent Noctua's. I did this on my x61 and it made a huge difference in noise. Please post pics, want to see this beast when completed...

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll look into the GPS's for sure. As for the NZXT, I'll definitely considering switching out the fans.

I'll be sure to post pictures on the entire process
