Hello everyone!

I wanted to know if there are any software which can record the game as I'm playing, and save it as a video file, so that I can share it with my friends!

Thanks in advance!

if you have an nvidia gpu use  shadowplay

What would be the performance hit? I have an i7 5820k.

Well, if I use my CPU to encode, it's pretty bad in BF4 with a bitrate of more than 1000. However, a 5820k would probably have an easier time with higher bit rates and keeping in game performance acceptable.

what bit rate would I need for 60fps 1440p on YouTube?

Why don't you go with 1080p? You probably want to use as high of a bitrate as possible for the best looking video possible. I try to use around 10k, but I have to encode with my GPU or my CPU will be fucked with all the extra load. But with a 5820k, you might be able to use the CPU for encoding while gaming. OBS is free so it doesn't cost anything to try it out and experiment.

I have a 1440p monitor and a lot of laptops and desktops are going 1440p. But if its too much of a hit 1080p is just fine. I'll try it when I get home. Do I need to install any encoding software to get it to work with my CPU?

Well, if you're going to be uploading to YouTube for an audience, 1080 is the most common resolution so it doesn't make sense to tax your computer more than you need to. As for encoding, it's all incorporated within OBS.

I dont do much in terms of recording but what I do record I do in shadowplay.

I recommend shadow play if you have a lower end system

or you want something to passively record in the background and you can choose to save the data via hotkey.

the issues with shadowplay is the quality just is not very good.

Some footage I captured via shadowplay at 1080p

didn't see, just seen a couple posts recommending shadowplay and wanted to issue a bit of a warning if quality was of importance.

Yeah, Nvidia has a lot of work to do on Shadowplay.

I think what they got is good for particular applications (like what I mentioned above or if FPS is paramount) but they should give more options for a better end quality video as well. If they did that the thing would be golden.

now if you will excuse me metal gear rising is like crack and I need to play it (and record a better session against that boss since its awful lol)
