Combining 2 or more raid disks

Hello!

I have server configured with 3 raid 10 disks each about 10TB and in server 2012 it shows up as 3 different disks like D:\, E:\ and F:\.

disk D:\ is configured with one raid controller, but E:\ and F:\ are configured with other Raid controller, so 2 raid controllers are involved.

question is can I safely combine all of them as 1 30TB disk? I know windows can combine them, but how safe is it? is there another better way to do that?

thanks

I don't know much about RAID, but I would imagine you would need to reconfigure the RAID 10, wiping all your drives.

Welcome to the forums!

Well it depends. What are the RAID cards/controllers? What model is the server?

hmm I would like to avoid that, and I don't know if disks from 2 different raid controllers could be combined any other way but windows volume spanning. any other solutions? thanks

It is possible to 'combine' two raid cards. Just depends on the model. Also, additional hardware may be needed.

Yeah, I don't think you can connect those together.

On the LSI side of things, the requirements are kind of strict...same card model, all SAS drives, and a LSI expander chip based backplane.

I think you're stuck keeping them as is. Or using software RAID to fuse them together.

You could use Windows drive spanning. But it's not ideal.

ok so what could go wrong by using windows spanning?

You could use DFS to present them as a single network volume.
