Ultrawide or HTC Vive ?

givingtnt

so I want this monitor : http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/monitors/LS34E790CNS/ZA
but I also want a vive. im most likely only going to buy one as of now.

I don't need a second monitor for at least the next 6 months, and my current 27" is fine.
but then again, idk if I should buy the htc vive (or rift idk yet)

I'd personally get the monitor since vr is still in early stages and you don't know what you're gonna get, but if i had to pick one of the 2 vr headsets i'd go for vive, oculus is trying to pull an apple move on the industry.

TBH get the second monitor. Currently the Vve is a great product but it is the first gen which means it wil come with all the first gen problems. I understand wanting to be on the cutting edge of technology but we have see how bad first gen problems can be.

I still think VR is in a too early stage for the headset to deliver a great experience-1080p in each eye sounds like too little for me. I would get a monitor or just keep the money. I'm waiting a few years before perhaps getting VR.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Big monitor will make you look smart and will function regardless of task.

Strapping VR headsets makes you look silly. Too few applications for them now. Also uncomfortable.

What are you going to browse the web and use Excel in VR?

no but I play a heck of a lot of flight simulations

war thunder and DCS world in VR would be SICK   (and I just can't stand looking around with the 8w hat .. that sucks)

I came to say you're going to get more value out of the monitor. While the Vive looks awesome, it's 2nd iteration is probably going to be way cooler.
