Its the newest architecture, though you won't expect a huge performance increase over the 4690k

I believe the 6600k has better single core performance though

if its not too much more expensive the 6600k is worth it

Really depends on how much you want to spend.  If money isn't really a factor then go for the 6600k.

I'm impressed with the 6600k I purchased, granted I have no experience with the 4690k and it could be just as good... My 6600k hit 4.7ghz quite easily and outperformed my old i7 3770 in cinebench by quite a large margin :D

 

Get the best you can afford for your situation.  Thats really the general rule as far as I'm concerned. If saving a few bucks getting a 4690k will let you get a better graphics card or something.. nothing wrong with going that route.
