you wot m8?!

1stly: x86-64 is not 64bit! have you heard of Intel Itanium, SUN UltraSpark, IBM PowerPC? all of them were true 64bit CPUs

x86-64 is a extension to the 32bit architecture

2ndly: the 1st (non embeded) multicore CPU, IBM's Power4

To be fair, x86-64 was the only one of the four that actually went somewhere. 64-bit PowerPC never left the server industry and the Power Mac G5. Itanium flopped like hell, and we all know where Sun is at now.

PowerPC architecture was the bedrock of Apple products for a very long time

it was also at the core of th PlayStation3

It was, but 64-bit PowerPC never took off.

Like I said, the only Mac that used a 64-bit PPC processor was the Power Mac G5, and those were the later models.

PowerPC is very much IBM's flagship in server products

and they're working with nVidia on that nVLink thingy

I know, and it is pretty decent in the server market. But the consumer market is the market that really matters, and AMD64/x86-64 is the only one that punctured the consumer market.

How is this an AR device?

They displayed how it worked in the livestream earlier. If you look at the front of it, it has a couple of cameras there.

punctured shit

x86-64 launched in 2003 and it took the SW industry nearly a decade to actually use it "properly", same as multithreading

no, they do not.

AMD is in the pockets of every OEM atm... and in order to save OEMs money, yes, TO SAVE MONEY FOR THE OEMs LIKE DELL, TOSHIBA, LENOVO ETC... they were coaxed/forced into making a single mobile socket for their low low low end shit, and Carrizo.

However their low low low end shit can only run single channel memory. So the OEMs keep making Carrizo laptops with only single channel memory motherboards.

It would not shock me if the mobo inside this thing is single channel to shave costs and increase profits. Since this isnt AMDs own product, i promise you, corners will be cut.

Good thing my old Richland laptop is dual channel :)

This makes more sense to me. I always thought VR should be wireless. This is one kind of solution. Next is a backpack carrying an external gpu on your back and egpu that headset.

if it is fully wireless could you imagine the battery life....

WHAT????!!! Only 8GB RAM? I want 16GB!!!!! Deal breaker!!

Most games nowadays only use up to 8gb plus because it is its own standalone device the ram will only be running the game.

This is as stupid or brilliant as their new CPU tech ends up being.

Spoiler

I'm leaning towards the stupid side.

#1 you might want to fix that typo that says 880p to 8800p.

#2 r7 GPU with a 2k screen? That seems pretty weak for that high res... You would only be able to watch videos on that lol any game except stuff like TF2 and CSGO would run like a potato on that.

They didn't specify what GPU exactly though, which makes me curious if it is a Polaris unit.... because if it is, they could cram that thing they demoed against the 950 in there and a 950 could theoretically do some intensive VR.

i think they mean the integrated r7 graphics in the fx8800P apu sadly , and not a dedicated unit.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

It probably is integrated since the actual unit its self is quite small
