Hi,

I have a Moto G 3 running Marshmallow and I would like to know if Adaptable storage is worth it. I found a few articles like this one that are not very convincing. In my case, I have the 8GB version and I'm running out of space since the Marshmallow update as it seems like it's no longer possible to just move apps to the memory card.

Has any of you tried it and had bad experiences? And is it worth spending more money on a high end memory card? I can see USH-3 memory cards that cost twice the price of regular UHS-1s but have better specs (90 vs 48 MB/s read speed and 40 vs 10 MB/s write speed). Would I notice the difference every day and would the phone be able to take advantage of it?

Thanks

Adoptable storage. I have it on my Nvidia shield k1 tablet, to be honest I tried it and didn't like it, there were a few apps that no longer worked for me because it said that it couldn't find the SD card, I can't remember which ones they were now, but they were apps that I used a lot every day so it was no good for me. I went back to just having the SD card as storage in the end as it was too much hassle. The card itself wasn't a problem it was the way that apps worked with it, I think the tech is too new at the moment for it to work, for me at least. I will wait until app developers have had more time to work with it so that there are less problems. Sorry I can't be more help to you other than the experience I had when trying to use it.

Thanks for your feedback. I've also read somewhere that memory cards are not made to be used intensely this way, so this could lead to file corruptions and failures. Now this kind of sucks because now I can't move apps to the memory card so I'm running out of space.

I had many issues, but this was all fixed from RESTARTING your device. I actually like the new internal storage, and I have an fast micro SD card. Make sure you back up all of your important documents / photos before doing it because once you switch there is no option to move it back to internal storage. (You have to reformat)

Anyways after restarting (Turn off and on) the device everything ran perfectly, and I love it. I experienced zero delay playing an movie (1080p FLAC) with my nvidia shield tablet. I can FINALLY TORRENT to SD card now without rooting the device :)))))

I obviously restarted the device and tried loads of things to get it sorted out, none of them worked... don't assume that someone else hasn't done something correctly, assume that you weren't using the same apps that have trouble with the adoptive storage.

I would understand if you have an slow SD card. There are also a ton of fake SD cards out there. Storage between the internal and external is the same thing. It's storage, and should function the same. Meaning if I put an movie on an SD card or an movie on an USB drive the movie should still play.

Jesus - seriously, my card is not faulty or fake or slow.... and I am not talking about playing movies. The app in question wanted me to have a sd card, but it couldn't find one oibviously as the card was being used for adoptable storage instead. I know you probably still won't get it until you experience soemthing like this yourself, so just move on.

Please give me the name of the app. I will test it out if it's on your end.

Which part of this ^^couldn't you understand.. it was a while ago when I tried it, so maybe they also fixed the problem on the apps by now too, but I can't remember as I was very busy at the time and just needed to use the apps in question, so I went back to normal storage and the apps worked again... and yes I did a restart etc etc.

How fast is your memory card. Can you provide the name of the class, or just the read/write speeds?

My SD card is this http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-Adapter--SDSDQX-064G-U46A-Version/dp/B00D6XTMFC/ref=sr_1_23?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1457815624&sr=1-23&keywords=micro+San+disk+card

An better deal would be something like this, since the speeds are faster, and more storage.

Yeah I put marshmallow on when I got it a month ago, I did give relevant information to OP about the experience I had with it... I'm fed up talking with you about it now as you seem determined to try and make out that I did something wrong and that's why it didn't work for me. I have said over and over that it was a particular app or two that didn't work right with the adoptable storage and you can't seem to get your head around that for some reason... anyway OP if you're reading this good luck with it, hope it'll work out for you.
