Hooking multiple consoles up to 1 hdmi port?

What exactly do I need I need like an hdmi splitter but its not a splitter? I cant remember the name of it..

 

Also does it need to be a powered one or not?

It is a HDMI splitter, they receive power by connecting to the HDMI port of your TV/monitor.

What you are looking for is called an HDMI switch, I have one myself but it's an old product and hard to find. I suggest reading reviews on any you find on the net like Amazon.

I'm not sure to be honest. I would buy a powered one, just to be safe and not have to deal with return if a passive one doesn't work.

I have an old HDMI switch and as long as it is hooked up to a TV all works well with the DRM but if I hook it up to my monitor or try using a HDMI to DVI cable no picture is shown. The only way I have found around that is to start my device with the switch hooked to my TV and then I can move the output HDMI to my monitor and it works fine. It just needs that handshake from the TV when first starting.
