Nvidia Pascal Demo Units spotted in shipping: one $900 and other $600

These are probably the Ti and Titan test samples. I would imagine that if Nvidia are going to launch Pascal at GTC then the *70 and *80 chips are already tested and being produced so the manufacturers have time to build their cards. It would make sense seeing as these are TI and Titan prices anyway.

Why do people expect prices to go down? Titan launched at 1000, Titan X launched at 1000, why should the next one be any lower?

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

Never considering any gpu at these price points again.

If anything the prices may go up. More engineering and R & D put in to this generation than before. (HBM2, 14/16nm process etc.)

Actually the R&D costs are lower. Maxwell was stripped of a lot of stuff to make it fit on 28nm. Pascal is just adding everything back and switching memory controllers. This is a cheap generation for Nvidia.

 

Volta will be more expensive R&D given it goes to being a 1/2 DP architecture like Fermi and will be even more tailored for heterogeneous computing.

Are they not also tweaking/refining the architecture? or is it almost a literal copy/paste of the existing arch on the new smaller node? I guess if that's the case, then yeah it would be cheaper.

Pascal is what Maxwell was intended to be. Are there some tweaks to take advantage of a smaller node? Sure, but those are cheap to do compared to fundamental redesigns. Volta will be the pricier architecture in R&D since it moves to 1/2DP at the same node.
