Didn't even do a search, f.lux everybody!

If you aren't using f.lux then..... well, you might be looking into a very bright bluish tinted white monitor right now, and if it's night, it can delay your sleep!  Yep, your screen, putting out bright white light, just like ANYTHING else that generates it's own light, will delay your sleep.

 

So here's how I look at it:  Most of us loving using a computer, and doing cool stuff with them.  So, if you sleep well, you wake up refreshed, and you have great cool ideas.  If you don't sleep as well, because you stared into your computer screen all night, well, you don't do quite as cool stuff.

 

So, I think that sums it up, go download f.lux.  You should get to a peachy orange page with f.lux written all over it!

Windows 11 will just force business to "recycle" "obscolete" hardware.  Microsoft definitely isn't bothered by this at all, and seems to want hardware produced just a few years ago to be considered obsolete.  They have also not shown any interest nor has any other company in a similar financial position, to help increase tech recycling whatsoever.  Windows 12 might be cloud-based and be a monthly or yearly fee.

 

Software suggestions


Just get f.lux [Link removed due to forum rules] so your screen isn't bright white at night, a golden orange in place of stark 6500K bluish white.

released in 2008 and still being improved.

 

Dark Reader addon for webpages.  Pick any color you want for both background and text (background and foreground page elements).  Enable the preview mode on desktop for Firefox and Chrome addon, by clicking the dark reader addon settings, Choose dev tools amd click preview mode.

 

NoScript or EFF's privacy badger addons can block many scripts and websites that would load and track you, possibly halving page load time!

 

F-droid is a place to install open-source software for android, Antennapod, RethinkDNS, Fennec which is Firefox with about:config, lots of performance and other changes available, mozilla KB has a huge database of what most of the settings do.  Most software in the repository only requires Android 5 and 6!

 

I recommend firewall apps (blocks apps) and dns filters (redirect all dns requests on android, to your choice of dns, even if overridden).  RethinkDNS is my pick and I set it to use pi-hole, installed inside Ubuntu/Debian, which is inside Virtualbox, until I go to a website, nothing at all connects to any other server.  I also use NextDNS.io to do the same when away from home wi-fi or even cellular!  I can even tether from cellular to any device sharing via wi-fi, and block anything with dns set to NextDNS, regardless if the device allows changing dns.  This style of network filtration is being overridden by software updates on some devices, forcing a backup dns provuder, such as google dns, when built in dns requests are not connecting.  Without a complete firewall setup, dns redirection itself is no longer always effective.

And then your PC has f.lux and you end up with a corrupted sector 0 or whatever viruses pretend to do these days.

@Flowey (How do I just do a regular reply) No, http://www.justgetflux.com/ is not that.  You're referring to flux.exe.  Which is actually the same name as f.lux's exe file, because you can not have "f.lux.exe" to differentiate between the two.  So, I'm not putting out bogus stuff, give   f . lux   a try!

Well, believe it or not, f.lux CAN NOT make you fall asleep.  But what it is great at doing, is helping you get sleepy.  Now, just to be clear, that doesn't mean you will fall asleep at your desk.  It allows you to fall asleep, once you are done, instead of keeping you awake longer with all the bright white light, compared to the more yellow light.

 

TL:DR, you won't fall asleep, but when you're ready, you'll be ready to go to sleep much easier.

I know all about Flux, and I used to use it for almost a year, however my real productivity and creativity hours are between 1am-3am and Flux would make me feel tired far earlier than that so I stopped using it.

Holy shit!  Why is it so late?  Have you considered splitting your sleep into two chunks at night?  Here is an example, and we may naturally have sleep like this just a couple hundred years ago! (actually 300+)

So you could go to bed really early around 9-10 P.M., and wake up around 1-2 A.M., do some creative stuff, (I would prefer having f.lux here) and then go back to sleep until the morning.  But that could get quite complicated.  But that's when you're creative, this might work out great!

Alright alright, I was wrong, still I didn't download the link on my PC first time, I did it on my brother'PC via a virtual machine. hehehe. Being too cautious never hurted anybody
