You can definitelly do that, the only concern is that bigger packs are preconfigured to work properly in more channels configurations, so if you buy a 4x4GB of any other brand/speed you will probably achieve better performance if it is design to work in dual channel.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

The memory kit I use has more speed and is 20 dollars cheaper... :P

I do like the scheme, that would look right at home on an Asus Sabertooth with some Noctua fans.

I actually considered getting some Patriot Viper ram at one point, actually.

You know, you have some nice options to choose from. It all depends on your budget.

You're better of buying 2x 8gb modules since you won't be using your memory controller as much as you would be by using 4x4. Second of all, if you'd like to upgrade to 32gb in the future, you can buy 2 dimms more.

My system is running 4x4gb 9-9-9-24. Kingston hyperX memory.

Fractal Design Define R4 - Intel Core i7 3770k@4,4Ghz - Corsair Hydro H100i -  EVGA GeForce GTX780 Classified - ASRock Fatal1ty Z77 Professional - Kingston HyperX 16GB 1866Mhz - OCZ Fatal1ty 550W - OCZ Vertex 3 60GB - Seagate Barracude 2TB

Thanks for helping, All the RAM that you posted I liked and I'll take your advice I go for a (2x8GB).

My budget is of $150 to &200 for the RAM.

These RAM, now I like not which to choose.

1. G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 1600MHZ | CL7 | 1.5v

2. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 2133MHZ | CL9 | 1.6v

3. G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 2400MHZ | CL10 | 1.65v

Comparison

You think it worth 2400MHZ for $30 difference?

Of those 3 posted, I'd go for the kit with the tightest timings/lowest voltage. So the Trident X that's 1600mhz and cas7.  You could probably even overclock it to 1866mhz and still keep your timings or only have to loosen them slightly.

I would personally go with this one: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/patriot-memory-pv316g160c9qk as it is cheaper than the ones that you chose.

Unless you are doing it for looks get the least number of DIMMs for the quantity of RAM you want so the CPU mem controller isn't as stressed.

RAM speeds/bandwidth is king, timings aren't as important if you want the higher end stuff. Though I'd recommend just getting 1600Mhz RAM in most cases.

You can add more RAM later as long as the specs are the manufacture and spec are identical to what you've already got.

RAM advertised as being quad-channel effectively means little, RAM is RAM and it'll work fine in dual-channel

Hope that helps

I'm thinking about buying 2 kits of Vengeance Pro 8GB (2x4GB) or Dominator Platinum 8GB (2x4GB) to 1600 MHZ (9-9-9-24).

I wanted to buy 2 Kits (2x4GB) because they look better and there is no memory (4x4GB) to 1600 MHZ (9-9-9-24).

If this can be done in this way I'm going to buy one this week and the other in a few months. (I do not need more than 8GB for now)

Example:

1. Vengeance PRO (Blue, Silver, Red) Video

2. Dominator Platinum Video

3. Price

I just want to know if I can put another memory (2x4GB) in a few months with no problem or will I have to buy these (4x4GB).

some problems might come up if using 2x dual channel kits. especially if overclocking.

dual channel means that the 2 modules have been matched for voltage, latency, and

micro legends. any offset of those legends and the stability is questionable. hence

quad channel where all four are equally matched and stable. if there is no 4x4 kit

available, then use the 2x 8 kit. usually there is a reason there isn't a specific kit available

due to binning process is one of them. cost to match 4x modules and keep the price point

believable is tough.

so far my experience with the Patriot Memory modules is far from stellar. ranging from the

Viper3 to the Signatures and they do not clock well. a 2133 should handle 2400/2666 with

a voltage increase from 1.55 to 1.65, but fail.. and when overclocking on XMP major fail

with simple 1600MHz modules.

same CPU with vengeance or dominators easily a swifter and predictable overclock. granted

the Patriots have a 'sink array that is fine to look at, but the mem chips are not worth the cash.
