So i was wondering if any of you smart people know how to make a normal desk height adjustable (im building my own desk so i have a bit more flexibility). I was thinking about putting some pistons or something under my desk that can be controlled by an electrical motor but i dont know how it would work and i cant find an electrical motor on amazon. I have been looking on the interwebs but i cant find anything.

you need at least two linear actuators and a motor controller

and something powerful enough to lift a desk with stuff on top is going to cost you at least $1k

you might as well just buy a height adjustable desk and save some money

Do you want to be able to change between heights on a regular basis? Or do you just want to change the height every once in a while?

The parts the former use are specialized, expensive components called 'Actuators', and those powerful enough to lift a desk with a computer on it will be more expensive still. Believe it or not, you'll actually save money buying a height-adjustable desk, due to actuators being mass-produced by those companies.

Well, I did find this-

If you're really strapped for cash, there are some reliable DIY alternatives, but none that I know of use motors and actuators, and you'll have to physically adjust the desk height while someone else holds it up.

Im not strapped for cash but im not gonna spend more than 200 dollars on making it height adjustable. Its really fucked its cheaper to buy something premade than DIY when its so complicated. I just wanna be able to change between sitting and standing once or twice everyday (health reasons).

It's be much much cheaper for you to make it manually risiblebut you could do a number of things depnding on budget/abilities/weight/spave/frenquency of use/ and reasorces

numismatic-air

hydrolics-fluid but not likely

mechcanical-gears and the electric motor

How expensive is numiastic air and mechanical gears plus engine? (Approximatly).

honestly with the little we know about the desk and I'm sure I'll forget some cost/parts but so more experienced builders please correct me but assuming you go with mechanical/electric and not numismatics

maybe $35 x 4 for 4 motors (one per leg)

$60 for the rails and a rack and pinion gear arrangement on each leg

$25 for the switch(2 buttons for up and down)

I'm seeing 4 legs set up like this, maybe a spring loaded pin or some way to lock them in.

Shit dude, thats a lot just to make a table go up and down. But thinks for the help anyways!

Well a single leg desk would lower cost but it'd be less stable. You could always make it manual
