Tips for running your own File server.

mckendry1011

I have a Dell optiplex that has 2 hdd's in and I want to turn this into a file server, I want to know what is the best operating system to run the server on and what other tips is there for that os.

This server be used to store music, pics, and user data for 4 users. Within the next 2 months, I am hoping some sort of back-up solution in place for every pc and this server.

Ask ten IT pros for their favorite OS to get fifteen answers. I'd personally go with Windows server, the newer the better but in par with the hardware. I'd do it for AD and overall familiarity.
