Hey Guys!

I'm on the look for some good desktop speakers. I really don't care about the price.

I'm kinda new to this area, so please just throw out something useful.

Cheers!

If you have room I would consider the JBL 305 at about $250 or the Vanatoo Transparent One at $500.

If it was for home theater or the speakers would be farther away a lot of the time I would also consider the Elac B5 or B6, or the tower versions of those ($230, $280, and $560 respectively plus the cost of a speaker amp if you dont have one yet).

Why?

I'd say Vanatoo Transparent One. Excellent bass extension for the size of the speaker (40Hz from tiny shoebox?!), DSP corrected, analog as well as digital inputs, compact, attractive design.

looks, finish quality, and reliability/customer satisfaction

oh and btw the transparent one only goes to 48Hz

Not according to real-world measurements.

As far as "customer satisfaction" goes, idiots will be happy with anything. Everything else you mention is cosmetic, which is a silly primary consideration for an audio product.

i havent heard anyone say that their audio is bad, so....

do you have any proof of 40Hz on the transparent one?

I don't need to "prove" anything here; this isn't a court of law. I have certainly heard reports that Audioengine in general is overvalued for the performance their products provide.

its funny because you apparently "hear" that audioengine is overvalued and you happen to "hear" that transparent one speakers apparently go to 40Hz when it clearly states ON THEIR WEBSITE that it only goes to 48Hz at +-3db
Unless you happen to think that +-10db is the way frequency response is measured (which only shitty companies do), you're wrong.

And yeah, you do need to provide proof if you dont want your made-up BS to be ignored :)

That whole X Hz +/- 3 dB (or any amount of dB) is so useless I wish someone would ban it and force manufacturers to post an actual frequency response curve, and not a super smoothed out one either - an actual useful one, with on axis and 30 and 60 deg measurements as well.  There would be no more guess work then.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
