Question: Alternatives to alcohol for removing old thermal compound

Methylated spirits is basically only alcohol. You really cannot get much better than that.

You could you some cheap ass vodka

Just go out to your local pharmacy and buy the Isopropyl Alcohol. Why do you not want to use that? At least you'll know that it "works" and won't damage your parts. Or kill you. (who knows)
