I tend to come to this website to vent a lot of my frustration with my ISP, Comcast, and have gotten a LOT of backlash about it saying "You don't know jack about anything" or "You're overreacting". 1: I know what this is about because Comcast is rated one of the most corrupt companies as of typing this. 2: I'm not: You'll see why in a sec.

I pay the premium of $80 a month for 75 MBPS Internet (Rip-off, I know!) and every now and then, Comcast likes to throttle us to make room for all the "Comcast Business Class" services around my house (I live around a lot of businesses). When they see businesses, they see $$$, so they make them a priority and us normal folk are left in the dust. Take a look at the speed I've dealt with for almost a week (It seems a LOT slower than it is.)

Yeah. That's corrupt business for ya! I went to customer support and complained and as my last topic that I took down due to all of the negative crybabies, I got that nasty sarcastic tone. The "We are unable to accommodate this" and "I'm not obligated towards that". That first one may seem like it was nice, but if you read the context of our conversation, you would agree with me. She also got an equally sassy "Engineer" (Probably another liberal arts bachelor degree-toting lunatic) who got fussy with me because I wanted to return my AIO Modem / Router Combo (Review by me HERE) and go with a standard modem and pfSense router. He said my "Package accommodations are not supported by this", when I literally just have regular Internet and nothing else. He started stating the "bad things" about pfSense and that it can "Void Warranties", even though he didn't state to what and how. I just hung up after that.

In all, Comcast is a disgusting, leecher company and intentionally rips people off. The Internet and TV are WAY too expensive and the TV boxes they give us break down every other moon, so I get to make my trips back and forth to a Comcast service center now and then. I hope those who intend to switch to Comcast read this and STAY AWAY. I also can't change ISPs because COX has been too lazy to get their service down where I live and Comcast just has the Benjamins rolling into them.

I live in a residential neighborhood around a bunch of old farts. You can't tell me there is heavy internet usage here.

I pay for 25 down, 5 up.

I actually get a unsteady 5-15 down and <2.5 up. It's shockingly inconsistent as well. Ping to a google server fluctuates from 25-85ms on a regular basis. Some days it's better than others.

It randomly drops out every 3 hours or so. Not noticeable during normal usage, but f*cking horrible when trying to play games. The ping will steadily rise over a few seconds and spike well over 10,000ms (12,460ms I once recorded), disconnect from whatever server I was playing, then come crashing back down to normal. This happens in a ~7 second period.

I know this isn't on my side of the problem. Checked and double checked to make sure everything works on my end. Contacting Comcast is about as helpful as using your own feces as an abrasive to clean headlights.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

As much I personally don't care for Google (personal reasons wont go into at this time) I am happy to see Google spear head the fiber internet as it is pushing/bringing a much better standard.

:D

The maximum internet speed in my neighborhood is 75 (I USED to have 100) and Comcast refuses to bring anything more than that either than their HORRIBLE "Gigapro" "2GBPS" thing that's like $400 a month.

Comcast bought out our area.  So, we can't get Fios or Google Fiber.

Really? They can do that!?!? My mother used to work for Verizon and she said that Fios is a great service and very cost efficient... No wonder Crapcast bought it: To scam people.

Yup, they paid off the county board to let them be the head monopoly here.  The most you can get from Verizon here is 10 up, 10 down.  Same with everyone small ISP.  You want more than that in my county then you need Comcast due to them owning all the cables in the county.   Verizon and everyone else has to rent off their lines.

Well, apparently pfSense can make your speed SEVEN times more than what it was... The firmware in the old modem / router was helping throttle my speed, WELL NOT ANYMORE! >:)

It's still a rip-off I'm paying $80 for that, but it's better than nothing! Thanks, pfSense!

I now run a Motorola Surfboard SB6120, an Asrock AD2550R, pfSense, and an HP gigabit switch, and it's FASTER than the stock Comcast equipment. The old modem / router is back in its box and is returning to the Comcast service center tomorrow! :)
