Why is my ASUS P4P800 SE still expensive?

jswan

Long story short, I built my parents a new computer and took their old one (built by a family friend many years ago) home with me.

The motherboard is an ASUS P4P800 SE. I googled it, and looked it up on ebay to find that even used boards are even selling for upwards of $100. As far as I can tell there isn't anything real special about the board itself.

Can anyone explain why the value of this board is still so high?

The motherboard isn't made anymore, and there isn't a huge amount of stock.

Yeah, I kind of figured these were the reasons behind it.

I just have to figure out what to do with this. I don't think I have any desire to build a P4.

They are fun for nostalgic reasons, but for any computing tasks they are shit.

True that. I'd be working with a 3.0GHz P4. Ick.
