Windows 8, Windows 10 Product key?

I am currently preparing to build a budget PC for my younger bro (the parts are due to arrive tomorrow) i have everything but an operating system. I have a previously used windows 8.1 disc and a product key, but i upgraded to windows 10. My question is if upgrading to windows 10 uses the same windows 8 product key, and if i can reuse that windows 8 key for his installation without screwing up my license on my end?

no you can only have one PC activated per key at a time

your windows 8 key is now tied to your windows 10

Depends.  You cannot use a windows 8 key on windows 10, but you can go through the long and tedious process of installing  windows 8, then 8.1, then 10.

Also, if you have an oem copy,  it cannonly be used on one computer.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case
