Which way should I go? 800-900€ build (900-1000USD)

J0X3R

Hello everyone! :)

So I am planning to build a "gaming-pc" for a friend.
My thoughts so far are that I could either go with a Skylake build or save some money and go with an FX 6300 and spent that money on the GPU.

Option 1:

CPU: FX 6300 (100€)
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 Gaming G1 (350€)
Mainboard: MSI 970A-G43 (64€)
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 (33€)
PSU: CM GM 550 (67€)
SSD: 120 GB 850 EVO (60€)
HDD: 1 TB Seagate (45€)
Case: CM silencio 352M (56€)
some sort of dvd burner ..(~10€)
CPU Cooler: EKL Alpenföhn Brocken ECO (33€)

Option 2:

CPU: i5- 6500 (200€)
GPU:  R9 380X Nitro (240€)
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA B150M D3H  DDR3 (75€)
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 (33€)
PSU: CM GM 550 (67€)
SSD: 120 GB 850 EVO (60€)
HDD: 1 TB Seagate (45€)
Case: CM silencio 352M (56€)
some sort of dvd burner ..(~10€)
CPU Cooler: EKL Alpenföhn Brocken ECO (33€)

It seems weird to me to build a pc for that money in 2016 and use a 3 year old CPU, considering that she will use this pc for a few years.
Or do you think the FX 6300 will even bottleneck the 970?

So yeah.. tell me what you think :)
And feel free to recommend other hardware options.

OK, thank you!

And sorry for my english ;)

Better to go Intel.

Why not just go for Haswell and grab a i5 4460 and a R9 390 (assuming it's cheaper than the GTX 970)?

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Spoiler

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K - 4.5 GHz | Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO | RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 | SSD: Samsung 850 EVO - 500GB | GPU: MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6GB | PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 | Case: NZXT Phantom 530 | Cooling: CRYORIG R1 Ultimate | Monitor: ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Peripherals: Corsair Vengeance K70 and Razer DeathAdder

first off you have listed DDR3 ram which would not work with that motherboard but go with a I5 4690K or I5 4460 and get a r9 390/GTX 970 depending on what you want and what is cheaper

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

i dont "think" the FX6300 will bottleneck the 970, i've seen several cases where it does, but in the end it all depends on what you'll be doing with it.

if you want to cut some money, the intel build will be *fine* on the stock cooler.

that said, looks like you need more help than that.

As far as I know the  Gigabyte GA B150M D3H uses ddr3 ram not ddr 4..

And I think a K cpu is not necessary, because she will not oc it.

Go option 2, but kick out the cooler and get a better mbo and 1x8 ddr4 ram to go with it.(and is you have money left get a 390)

Edit: 390 would involve a 650W psu as well!!!

An i5-6500 and a R9 390 for just under 900 Euros.

you're goddamn right!

Thank you, but do you think the 390 is worth the extra price over a 380X? She will play in 1080p, i should have said that earlier ^^

Kinda. Judging from all the benchmarks I have seen so far, the 390 should be around 20 to 35 percent faster in 1080p, so I guess it's actually worth it.
