CSGO bad fps?

Go to solution Solved by Low_Battery,

Yeah, I might just buy a 212 evo and overclock a bit to try to get some more frames some time this year

It might be that even though you processor is not maxed from a work load perspective, it is just simply not fast enough to keep up...

SPECS:

Athlon 860k

R9 380 4gb XFX

EVGA 650G

2x4gb HyperX fury

It seems in most maps on low settings i cant get more than 150fps

Is there a way to increase it

(Just want it to be higher so it looks safer)

  • CPU: AMD athlon  860k
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A58M-HD2
  • RAM:2x4gb HyperX Fury
  • GPU: XFX R9 380 4gb

There is a huge difference between 60 and 120 fps in CS:GO even on a 60Hz monitor, stop bashing the guy.

It might be a CPU bottleneck but I am not sure, check your CPU usage while you are playing. I have GTX 760 which is a little bit worse than your GPU and I have no trouble running the game @ 230fps with some of the settings turned to medium.

Be sure to have "Multi-threading" enabled in CS:GO settings.

I don't think you need more fps

Chances are your monitor doesn't display more than 60 anyway. You are fine.

OP, don't listen to these people. FPS past your monitor refresh rate definitely does matter, see this video as to why.

That said, I think that 150fps might be all that processor is capable of.

There are tons of fps guides out there for csgo, and if you want I can get you my config later.

Game's extremely CPU bound -- you're pretty much stuck @ that performance until you upgrade the CPU. I can get ~380FPS stable, but people with i7s (of the same generation, at the very least) can get more frames, same GPU/RAM--mind you, I'm talking the range of 100++ more FPS.

I believe the engine calculates your input every frame that is buffered, so higher framerate actually would have a tangible benefit.

Can't figure out how to edit my post with the quote of this, but you're also correct. It's part of the argument of "why aren't MM servers 128 tick?!?!?!" and it's because the engine will only update the server with the information it's given if the framerate is adequate. So, even if you're on a 128tick server, if you're only getting 90FPS, it's only getting updated 90 times/sec.

There are a lot of setting you can adjust in CS GO to boost your fps and have little to no impact on the game, such as turning off fxaa for example, a post processing setting.  I suggest searching youtube, there are tons of videos out and show you the trade off for each setting.

Also, fyi, 150 does sound low for your card and settings, so there might be some basics you have configured wrong as well.  But we would need to know all your settings..

Ok, well I would also recommend using your favorite monitoring program and go play a game of death match for a couple minutes, then come back and look at your respective CPU, memory, and GPU performance to see if there are any bottlenecks.

Interesting, wouldn't have guessed that. I have never used an AMD gpu, but can you take a screenshot of settings in the actual AMD utility that could possibly be overriding the game's settings?

Well, I think it would be worthwhile to turn the tessellation mode, and even shader cache, to application controlled to see if that has an effect.

Also, absent any more details, if you are not using a default config I would double check your fps_max setting in console.  default is 300 i believe though, so unlikely culprit...
