yea im not a hardcore gamer but if it plays gta v left for dead 2 and stuff like that id be happy

umm i dont even think a used CPU will run those games for $40

 

i mean L4D yes but GTA 5 no way in hell

G3258 can sometimes be had for about $40-45 brand new if you live near a Fry's Electronics, and I never had a problem playing L4D2 on it with a GTX 960. Never tried GTA V on the Pentium, and even with the right graphics card, it still wouldn't be pretty.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

I was able to play Skyrim with an HD mod at 72+ FPS on a G3258 with a GTX 960 4GB in tow. I didn't mess around with foliage mods, and during intense battles with magic involved or in detailed cities/dungeons, FPS would drop to just slightly south of 60, but it never bottlenecked on me. L4D2 was child's play for that setup. I'd say you're fine with a G3258 so long as you pair a decent GPU (like a 750 Ti or R7 260/260X/265) with it. Bonus points for the G3258: seamless upgrade to a Haswell i3/i5/i7 down the road.

 

That's not to knock AMD. Honestly, the X4 is a better chip in many ways than the Pentium, but it's a little more expensive and doesn't really have an upgrade path.

I was able to play GTA 5 on a G3258 it was overclocked to 4.5ghz. However, if I played custom music, whenever a track would change, the game would more or less freeze for 3 seconds. The online experience wasn't a problem. I played for over 35 hours and didn't have a cpu related crash. The only crash I had was linked to a problem caused by enabling the go to game and skip the menu option. It's probably been fixed now, but I don't know.

I ran everything maxed out with one, but with a 780ti. It is still a decent quad core, and if you buy an asus board or get the x version, they are moderately overclockable.

Don't know how you'd have that budget, but I don't blame you. I have the same budget. Try something used like an i5-750. Hope I helped :)

G3258 , its what I have in my system now, overclocked to 4.2 gh/z and I have no need for more unless I was looking to stream and a bunch of other junk that would require more cores to run smoothly. I got mine for 40 bucks flat so all depends what you wanting to do. 

Games ive ran quite smooth on medium to ultra Settings and i only have a 750 Ti am slightly overclocking:

Evil Within 

Witcher 2 (medium)

Mortal Kombat X

Rust

L4D2

Call of Duty Black ops 3

So really if i had the video card i could just crank them all the way up no problem. So dont tell someone you need more unless you want to do way way more and for the price ya cant beat a processor that can decently handle new age games.
