Go to solution Solved by iamdarkyoshi,

Thanks everyone. I got it! I needed to use an older version of NVFlash to force the flash upon the damn GPU. IT WORKS!!!!!

I am trying to figure out what exactly this card used to be. The BIOS is corrupt.

Back of card:

Front of card

Cooler removed

GPU die

A quick google search tells me that based on the chip, it is an 8800GT or a 9800GT. Which one? And which BIOS should I flash?

You have a 8800GT/9800GT 65nm

This one was a Palit 8800GT 512mb non sonic specifically.

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

How good is your luck?

Generally complete ass. The PC DOES recognise the card as a 9800 something, and it says that it cannot start

Palit 8800GS Sonic

The PCB is slightly different for the 8800GT model by Palit.

This is the 8800GS PCB from Palit. (what your card has)

But wouldn't it brick the GPU if he flashed the wrong one?

Just flash it with both, if it bricks on the first try then use the other BIOS.

Unless you're being funny I think our definitions of "brick" differ greatly ;)

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Yeah good point, if it's already bricked, how do you plan on doing anything with it other than using it as your new coaster?

The PC recognizes the card, but somebody put the wrong BIOS on it. I am trying to flash it with NVflash but I cannot get it to force flash

Now. Do I try some higher clocked BIOS? No, probably not, it runs hot enough

Yeah my friend had a card just like that in an old dell case with 1 80mm fan at the back and pretty much no other openings and it overheated all the time.  I suppose that could have been the case's fault though.. :P

Probably... There is no VRM cooling on this, which is dumb beyond all belief

Of course it would, that's why you have a couple different ones to try.

You can easily unbrick a card if you have a secondary GPU or integrated graphics to use.

It's already bricked, you can still flash a bricked card and unbrick it. Done it a couple of times on one of the BIOS on my 290.

Wasn't being funny but I suppose it sounded funny. :D

Yup, see, by definition of bricked, it's as good as if it had been completely smashed.  Just with no physical damage :)

Everything can be fixed. It just takes a bit longer for more borked things lol
