Tell him about the gaming battery life of 30 minutes and what that will do to the battery over time, also tell him he can have a much more powerful, movable system.

LMAO 3970x in a laptop? xD

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

Which AW is he looking at? The price of AW laptops can indeed be lower through coupons or negotiation via phone with a sale rep. Just recently, there was a 10/20/30% sale where you could get a ~$2200 AW 17 down to ~$1700 to compete with other laptops that has comparable specification. Depending on how patient he/she is, he may be able to get an AW17 with a 770M for $1500 which is comparable to other units price wise to laptops like the Clevo P177SM, Asus G750, and MSI GT70.

Of course, since the discount had ended just recently and there may be a lot of orders in backlog, you may not be able to get a good discount on them atm (which will require some patience to get, as the discounts also can varied with the rep you are talking to as well). If that's the case, one of the laptops I had mentioned above would be his better options. You can get them at XoticPC. http://www.xoticpc.com/

How about something like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CU9GKTO does anyone know if I can put a SSD along side the HDD?

That's the older model with the 660M. Here's the newer model with the i7-4700MQ + 765M: http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-ge60-2oe003us-p-5782.html

It also allow you to configured in the SSD, which I would recommend the mSATA SSD and keep the original HDD for storage.

MSI GS70 :P

Runs cooler than the bulky alienwares, and is the thinnest 17in gaming laptop on the market...Kind of sad.

That is quite silly... The Alienware 17 will offer a better cooling system as it has to cool a 122w TDP card such as the 780M which it very capable of doing so, whereas the MSI Stealth only need to cool a 75w TDP card 765M...

If you need a thin and portable gaming laptop, than the MSI GS70 is certainly a considerable option; however, if you don't, it's not comparable to the AW 17 in terms of performance and cooling potential.

What I said it has a better  cooling system, I meant it runs cooler.

Which is clearly does.

If a laptop such as the alienware is capable of cooling a 122w GPU, how would the GS70 would run cooler when it it is design to cool a 75w GPU? Due to the thickness of the AW, it would mean, it can accommodate a thicker HSF than the GS70 as well. So if you configured the AW17 with the 765M, it would run cooler than the GS70.

You are clearly mistaken.

That?

That has a 780M.

The GS70 765m.

How can you compare the cooling system of something when the thermal output of one unit is higher than the other? That's like saying a laptop with without a dedicated GPU will run cooler than the MSI GS70.
