Hello, this is my first post on the forums. what should i purchase, a noctua cpu cooler or the new eclipse p400 case. after upgrading my graphics card from a gt 730 to a r9 390, i have been playing games at higher resolution and now my stock cooler is starting to sound like a jet turbine while playing games like fallout 4 and battlefront at ultra. i cant decide, i can buy the new case and sell my old one and use that money to buy a cooler, but will not be as good. or just stay with my currant case and buy the cooler. i am also planing on overclocking. my budget for the cooler is $70 - $80 and the case falls into that budget as well at $70. heres my build:

fx 8320 3.5ghz

asrock 970m pro3

2x4gb gskill ripjaws x

evga 600B 600w psu

powercolor pcs+ r9 390

sandisk plus 120gb ssd for boot

random 250gb hdd for mass

random 120gb hdd for mass (downloads, music, videos, pictures)

thermaltake core v21 mid tower case

Have you tried lowering fan speeds?

Don't cheap out on your cooler just to afford a better case right now. Get a good cooler and it will serve you well for a long time. I use the Dark Rock 3 myself and I highly recommend it. Both cool and quiet. It DOES have RAM clearance issues but you should be fine with 2 sticks. Worst case you put the fan in pull. Or splurge for the Pro 3 if you have room in your case/your memory allows it.

The Dark Rock 3 was $95 CAD on NCIX last I checked.

I'd up your budget $10 and get an NH-D15. It's the best air cooler on the market, it's quiet as hell, Noctua coolers are insanely easy to mount, you get a five year warranty, they give you the parts to mount to new sockets in the future, you're getting two top of the line fans, I mean if you're going big at $70-$80 might as well go really big for $90 for a heatsink that will last you forever and will be easy to install and uninstall.

If you leave the stock fan on the heatsink it maxes out at 21db, but only with the fan pinned at 100%. If you want to change it you can though, mounting hardware fits 120mm fans. I don't hear anything under normal use, and even when my CPU is at 100% load it is still quiet.

Ok. I decided that i will get eather a cryorig h5, h7, or the be quiet dark rock 3. But i have one more question. Can a 160mm cooler fit in a case with a cpu cooler hight limit of 160mm? Will i be able to close the pannel without scratching it?

Yes it would fit, measurements are almost always on the generous side.

What kind of dollars are you using?
