guyosi

could 2 quad core or dual core chips match up to a quad core or 8 core in terms of performance?

outperform - i doubt it even if it did the rig wouldn't be worth it

match up- that would depend on the specific processor and config and what you were doing i guess

I was thinking 2 4790k's vs a 5960X or 2 i7u chips against a 4 core mobile cpu

I know xeons can do multi cpu but what about consumer chips, do they just not have that ability?

My overclocked dual Hexacore system still destroys even the fastest single chips (like 5960x)

no it just isn't supported.

You can only do dual xeon on lga 2011 server motherboards. The lga 1150/1151/1155 and older consumer socket motherboard flat out don't support it. It really is only a good idea for servers that really need the extra cores. Those motherboards tend to be 300 dollars plus anyways.

Basically you can only do it with xeons on lga 2011 on a motherboard that supports it.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
