Graphics cards that are slightly better than the gtx 970?

jewishdolphins

Trying to upgrade my gpu from a gtx 960 w/ 4gig v-ram to something that's slightly better than the 970. I'm doing this because most of my friends have a 970 now and i feel like i just want to upgrade to something thats better than the 970, but not in a ridiculous price range. If you can please state a few graphics cards that are better than the 970, but not at a ridiculously high price (i.e. titan or 980 ti) that would be great! :D

would it be dumb to get another 960 with 4 gigs of v-ram and then do sli? I'm assuming this is bad beause the graphics card i have comes factory superclocked.

If you want slightly better than a 970, get a 390X.

Thing about dual 960s is... Will they outperform a 970? Yes. Will they consistently outperform a 970? No way in the deepest pits of hell. Will they offer a smoother gaming experience? [laughter]...

no. not even close. I'm upgrading cause its my birthday and i might ask for a graphics card. I was just wondering if there were any graphics cards around the price range of the 970 that would have a greater performance. I'm specifically looking for something better than the 970 only to future proof it.

The consistently part my 690 (basically same power as dual 960) consistently beats a 980

Those saying 390 have no idea what they're talking about. A 390 has the same performance as a 970. This forum...

if you want something slightly more powerful than a 970, that would be a 390x

If anyone asks you never saw me.

In that case fair enough but really the jump from 960 up to 970 / 390 isn't a big one...

I would hold off till you need the upgrade or new cards are released. Unless your finding the performance consistently just below what you want / need.

I don't know about inter-generational equivalents, but I know how SLI works. You, being that you own a dual-GPU card, can probably appreciate more than most the issues with SLI scaling and microstuttering.

nope. THat's a damn lie., Difference is fucking huge. One is for 1080p and one is for maxxed 1080p/ mid 1440p.

No, no it's not. Not on average. The only place that idea exists is this forum. A 970 and a 390 trade blows. They're equal.

@jewishdolphins Actually go with the  390X. (even though it's like 10% faster and way more $$$)
