I really, really like the R9 380 Compact from Sapphire, it looks a lot nicer than the R9 Nano, although of course it doesn't perform at the same level. I can't even afford an R9 Nano, but the 380 Compact is easy to obtain if I were to downgrade from my loud reference 290. I'm trying to make a custom case btw, a little over 5L in size, and I'd need a GPU that's shorter than the mITX board it goes in. I've had a 750 Ti before and the performance on that was nice, I'm not sure how the 380 performs though, and to be honest I'm quite lazy and I can't find the benchmarks for the games I play (and if I do they are quite varied from other reviewers).

I need benchmarks for the following:

GTA V

BF4 and possibly BF3 (I'm not so worried about BF3, easy game to run)

Star Wars: Battlefront

ARMA II perhaps? I play this one a bit, my i3 is a bottleneck in this game though.

Those are the most demanding games I play, so I suppose I don't really need to list CS:GO and stuff since it'll give 200+FPS anyway. I also need your guys' opinion. Should I downgrade my 290 to the cool little 380 Compact in favor of a super tiny, custom chassis just over 5L in size? Keep in mind I'm a big SFF enthusiast and I'd love to have possibly the tiniest gaming PC on LTT. Actually, could someone calculate the 'FPS per liter'? Would my 290 in the 11.5L SG13 still be better than the weaker R9 380 in a ~5.5L custom chassis?

Little off Topic: CSGO is a HEAVY CPU based Game. GPU wont be doing that much.

Well with my i3 I still get well over 200FPS maxed. I don't play CS:GO as much as the other titles I mentioned, so it doesn't really matter anyway.

I'm mainly worried about GTA V and BF4. I play those games a lot, Battlefront coming in a close third.

Well my FX-6300 and HD7950 plays BF4 fine on high-ultra settings, 60+FPS, and the r9 380 is slightly better than 7950.

a 380 should pretty much handle every game at high/ultra settings at or above the 60fps mark. For 1080p of course.

However you need to keep in mind the thermals. My nitro 380 gets steady 80-90 fps at max settings on rainbow6 siege. more or less the same thing in bo3 as well.

a 390 in a 11.5L case wont net you double the fps compared to a 380 in a 5.5L case. i dont think so anyway.

R9 380 is an HD 7970 isn't it? And the 380X is the GHz Edition?

I'm not worried about thermals. I know the limitations quite well, the 380 will be very much fine in the chassis I plan on having it in.

I forgot to mention, I will probably be getting a high end Polaris GPU in the coming months, so this card would be sort of temporary anyways. I think I'm going to do it, just have to sell my 290 first.

Oh and any thoughts on the 2GB? The only thing I can think of that it would be annoying in is GTA V.

Not exactly. Similar hardware configurations, but not the same cards. 285/380/380x are GCN 1.2 while the 7950/7970 are GCN 1.0. 380 also has less SPs than the 380x so it would like a 7950 and 7970.

130-280FPS Phenom II though i have not tried after core unparking as doing that gave me an over 100% FPS increase in BF4 so...

People are correct though CSGO is heavily CPU dependent to a point.

Oh okay, still enough power for now I'd say. I am upgrading to Polaris in the coming months so it doesn't matter much.

I don't play much CS:GO anyways, I play way more BF4 and GTA V.

You might have to step down to 900p if you're getting the 2gb version to avoid stuttering.

Like I said I'll turn down the graphics settings instead to use less memory, I don't like playing at anything but native resolution.

Fps and stuttering are 2 diff things. Stuttering doesnt mean you get lower fps. It means the gameplay is not smooth and that can happen for a myriad of reasons, including the frame buffer not being big enough. Digitalfoundry has a video showing that the 2gb versions of the 380 and 960 stutter at 1080p in modern games, and stepping up to the 4gb version fixed the issue. I'm on phone so cant link, but should be easy to find.

Yeah i know that but that's a GTX 580 running all the important stuff at very high and getting over 60FPS, he is using FXAA which is enough for most of us, i don't sit close to my monitor when playing anything with a controller anyway to really benefit from the MSAA modes.

His game has zero stutter.

A video wont show you stutter. You either have to feel it in person or have a tool that shows it to people who are not physically there to feel it. Go and watch any of digitalfoundry's and look at the frame time graph. Any time you see sharp dips, that is stutter.

I think r9 280 is 7950, 29 280x is 7970, and the 300 line is an improvement from that
